I'm sorry, I don't know the technical term for these! That also makes it hard to search for it.

What I'm asking is about those silvery metal rods that connect the door to the body, on the inside. They slide inside the door when it's closed?

Well, on mine, they don't seem to be tightly screwed into the body, so when opening and closing the door, I can see that the body-part will slide 1 or 2mm either way.

I've been looking through the service manual, but I really can't find any torque specs for these, and I haven't wanted to touch them yet in case this is the way they're supposed to be.

You know what, let me get a picture.

(later) okay, here's what I'm talking about. Any help?

I noticed mine were loose when I first got the car, so I just took a screwdriver to them. I havent had any problems because of tightening them.

Yeah, just tighten down the screw a bit.

hehe... can anyone tell me if this affects the door's ability to stay open? The doors on mine are very lazy about holding open... I'm hoping this'll fix that at all.

Nope. Make sure the car is level lol. If it's not it'll close faster

The backyard mechanics term for them is door slide bars and the purpose of them is to hold the door in the fully open position. If they are loose , the door tends to slam on your ankle while you are getting out, especially if you park nose uphill like I always do. This usually hurts, qiute a bit. So save yourself some pain and tighten them up. If you get them seriously too tight, they may make the door hard to open. They also should be lubed with white lithium grease but any grease will do, even vasoline.

Torque specs: tight without trying to twist the screws head off .

I never had a screwdriver that read torque; in fact ,I dont recall ever seeing one.
Hard enough to find any type of screwdriver in the mess around here. :AF:
