Hello,

My wife and I are selling our 2000 Celica GT-S 6 speed. We bought it about 1.5 years ago from an Oregon Toyota dealership as a certified vehicle. During this process they did a 200+ point inspection and had to bring it up to code if anything was out of the ordinary. This certified warranty is good until march of 2007.

The vehicle is red, has black leather, side air bags, abs, moon roof, rear spoiler, premium sound with an Infinity BassLink powered subwoofer. There is an aftermarket CD player that plays MP3's. It also has an aftermarket alarm system. This car has basically every option except for the factory body kit.

The car has 18" Enkei RPM2's in a gunmetal finish. These wheels have minor curbage from parallel parking at her school. We are including a brand new 18x8 et37 Enkei wheel never opened as a spare; in the event that one needed to be replaced we didnt want to have to order and wait for it. The car also comes with a set of snow tires on 15" alloy wheels that have a split-spoke style. The only performance additions are a K&N filter and a Magnaflow stainless muffler utilizing the factory tip for a very clean look. The muffler has a very respectable tone and has improved the mileage and throttle response slightly. I have also installed an Odyssey 925 drycell battery and new alternator. The battery has more impressive stats than the factory unit and is made to military grade guaranteed never to leak or gas...it also weighs 23 pounds for a nice decrease over stock.

This vehicle is adult owned, never raced or involved in similar activity. I am a service advisor at a local dealership and am meticulious about any service needed. The tires have approximately 7/32nds of tread and the brake pads are at abot 8mm front. My wife is a student and most of the miles are highway driven. The vehicle has a clean title and the revs have been mild over the time it has been owned. Every gear shifts like a new car and the interior is pristine.

This car would be perfect for a daily driver, family member, or the basis to build something fun (2000-2001 GT-S' had a higher rev limit). Rest assured that there arent many in this condition left on the road. The only reason for selling the car is that my wife is an art student and wanted a 4-door Yaris for transporting supplies.

Current price on autotrader is $14,500 OBO.

I think you would be better off keeping it, it seems like its a well taken care of vehicle, excellent condition. But toyotas warranty is not worth horse ****. Private party value for this car is like 10 grand for that car.

I appreciate your points.

The fact that it was certified means: was completely checked out and had to meet certain requirements (brakes, tires, etc), was not a salvage title (unlike many Celicas), etc.

Kelly Blue Book:

$11,565 Excellent

$10,830 Good

$9,870 Poor

There is market value and there is Blue Book value. On the open market a desirable vehicle will fetch FAR more for premium condition with low mileage. Thats why a ragged out Celica GT sells for a third of a low mileage pristine GT-S 6-speed. However, Blue Book sees the difference in engines as a $500 option or something. I sold my last 2000 Impreza 2.5 RS with every Cobb Tuning bolt-on for $3500 over book because of the other riced-out trash it was competing against. That was over a year ago and I still am getting emails asking if its for sale.

If you want to find a similar car for $10k based on your estimation skills I am sure the following site is flooded with them:

www.autotrader.com

While your at it, you should talk to this guy trying to sell a dumb old 1997 Supra TT for $35,900 with 140k on it. Blue Book says its worth $22,885.

PS: We are open to offers from anyone. Just email me and we might work something out. We would rather sell it to someone who would enjoy it than trade it in.

However, if your like this person trolling the forums looking for a mindless fight I am sure they will welcome you over here:

The value of a celica isnt gunna be over bluebook. You won't get more than 11,500 for that.

I hit post without re-reading the response and my own post.

I actually thought harsher advice was given than actually was. I would have edited the post if it would allow me.

My apologies.

Sorry to say, I don't think you will ever get that much.

Ok this is how it goes.

We ask $14.5k on the basis of condition, etc.

Someone else says $10k based on book.

During the process we average the prices and bammo: Car sells.

If we put $9k obo people would assume its totaled, has drugs hidden in the seats, is stolen, is waiting to blow up, etc. We just want someone to get extremely fair priced, reliable, transportation.

People sell cars with negotiable prices. If everyone assumed a fixed price they would be buying new Scion tC's. ;)

If anyone wants to give us a real estimate, based on market value (as we all know how to use KBB.com), please put it down on the thread. It might help sell the car.

I do know that between trading the car in with snow tires on it, getting the tax credit, selling our wheels/tires with the brand new Enkei in the box we can get well over $10k.

If I couldnt get more than $10k private party for this car I wouldnt waste my time trying to sell it. I would just wait for our new Yaris and trade it in.

I do know something about cars having worked at 7 dealerships, owned 8 myself all of which modified except this one.

Seriously though, I DO appreciate all of the input, but we listed the car for $10k we would sell it in the next 45 minutes.

Why not hold out a bit longer? The Yaris wont hit the shores for a few months.

Wow, very well kept car. But $14500 is way too much.

What makes you think people will assume it's totaled or something at 10K? Look at some 2000 GT-Ses on AutoTrader. None will be at $14500. I've seen people sell this car with the same amount of mileage with a clean record under $10K.

At least try 11K.

You cannot underestimate the value of a well maintained car. I paid well over value last summer for my 00 GTS. It was maintained flawlessly and had very tasteful mods that i wanted on my car anyway. However, it only had 27k miles and I paid only $13.9. I think you could get 11.5 though. Good luck!

Thanks Wnanna for the tasteful post.

Our price is very negotiable and we have had a few callers. I think most don't understand "obo" these days.

We would take somewhere around $12k I am sure (give or take a few). I would rather ask high and be easy to drop price. That way the buyer feels great and can brag they knocked us down $2k and we get slightly over book for being mature owners.

Less than that I would rather not deal with people private party and just trade it in. That way I don't have to deal with some person who thinks he knows something about cars trash talking the Celica and lowballing me. Then praying that he actually has money (that will clear the bank). At least trading it in the dealership makes money when they jack the price up and I know their funds will clear.

Who knows, if someone just said: "I like the car, it looks great...would you take ___" we might just take it out of mutual respect.

Personally, I would pay much more knowing the car hasn't been entered in a burnout contest, street raced, jumped a curb from some immature drift king wanna-be, etc. There are many abused Celica's on the road today, this isn't one of those.

Like I said, I am a service adviser and this car is up on the lift almost every time I drive it to work for them to inspect brakes, fluid, and ANYTHING else that might be wrong. I have been hunting for things to fix but never find anything wrong.
