A friend of mine has a '99 Celica and she just clicked over 60K. It's about time for her timing/serpentine belt to be replaced and she asked me what price range she should be expecting to pay. She's afraid of being taken advantage of at the shop, and would like to have SOME info before she goes in. I haven't had to worry about this stuff, so unfortunately I have no ballpark figure to give her. Anyone have any info?

They have a timing chain, not timing belt. I don't know if that affects the replacement mileage or not, but just FYI.

99 celicas has the 5sfe engine it has a timing belt. easy to change should be around 200 to 400 depends on what they change, drive belts, cam & crank seals, idlers, water pump ect.

I have 60000 miles on my GT-S in less than 2 years. When do we need to change the timing belt??

The 2ZZGE has a timing chain that should never need a replacement in normal use. :-)

hmm I was told that our timing chain should be replaed at about 80k miles when I bought my GT-S. I guess I should call Toyota and ask them.
