I took them into the shop to get them painted red. I called the shop today to see if they're ready and the shop said that the paint won't stick to them. They sanded the hell out of them, used plastic primer and painted but it won't stick. They said it just keeps bubbling up. They think toyota may have detailed them w/ armorall when the car was new, but I don't know. Any suggestions??

That paint shop is retarded. I painted mine myself and they look awesome. The need to use an adhesion promoter. Tell them they are retarded and either A) take them somewhere else, or B) buy some spray paint and do it yourself.

They shoud have or need to use a good shop grade degreaser.

i don't know it seems like you're dealing with idiots. lots of people here have done these themselves at home! and if a freaking paint shop knows less about prepping the materials and painting than all the do-it-yourself'ers on here, then they must not be very good. if it was me i'd just take em back and go somewhere else, because their quality is obviously not going to be good even if they do figure it out.

If the plastics were detailed with armor all.. its very likely that it's been absorbed so much and has bonded with the material. I'm not sure of the specifics.. but I wouldn't be so quick to say the guys working at that bodyshop are idiots. I had the same problem with the plastic piece around my gauges. Just my .02..

My car had armor all everywhere. The plastics in my engine bay & interior were soaked.
I degreased them with a pro degreaser several times before I painted. Not one blister so far.
I also painted my sideskirts, same deal soaked, no problem.
Let them sit in the sun after you've cleaned them well. Check after a few hours to see if any has "bled" out of the plastic. Keep cleaning them until it's at a minimum or stops, may take a long time though. Thats my 2.

yea... i think the guys there are not taking the right steps... mine are painted fine and are holding up fine with no blisters, nothing...and they've been like this for over a year... and they're red too :)

i just did mine myself and i've never done any kind of painting before...i don't know the guys, but i wouldn't let them do anymore painting if they can't figure it out...

spray paint has built in adhesion properties, it acts differently than paint used to paint a car. The shop isnt stupid at all.

If the shop didn't know that then I'd classify them as stupid.
