belive it or not I got it at walmart it is called "meguiars PlastX" but I think you could find it at any autopart store where the wax and all is... you should also buy a little tub of silicone and when you put them back together put some of the sili in the grove to make sure they seal up right.... thanks and good luck with your lights philly.....

I just used a flat black spry pain from walmart.... just make sure you use an outside paint, other wise the heat and sun will make it fade quickly.... thanks guys... I would recomend doing this if you are planing on getting black head lights it is easy and fun at the same time as saving you 200$$ you can put in to something else... with the money I saved I am making a box for my trunk I will post pic when I am done with that... I though about doing a write up in the car audio sec ( how to make a custom box) but I will see how that gose as I make it... but thanks guys and good luck if you all try this!! so easy a cave man can do it, eerrrr yeah :hide:

That plastic x stuff works pretty well. I reded out my tail lights and decided to go back to stock so I sanded it down and used the plastic x stuff and it looks great.

Good job. Nice job. BTW? I never had yellow film inside my headlights? The only thing that makes my signals look amber are the bulbs. If I take them out and replace them with clear bulbs they're clear.

Well I am going to do my headlights tomarrow and I got the Maguires Plastx and some gloss black interior/exterior spray paint. I just have one question what type of adhesive should I get to seal it up.

well I used this stiff called dubble bubble and pro seal.... we use it on the apache to seal all kinda of stuff... I am not sure if you can get it, but I am pretty sure that if you use and kind of adhesive the bonds plastic and a silicone it will wrok fine...anyone else have any ideas??

When you did your headlights did you put a new adhesive on or just sealed it with the adhesive it had on it and then just lined the outside with silicon?

I put new stuff in there... but that is just because I had the other stuff ( dubble bubble and proseal) in my tool box, but if you can used the old stuff just reheat it and deff put some new silicone to seal it for sure!!

how do you remove the amber film from the turn signals?? any tips? does it just peel off or what?
albanator

nail polish remover work great and it is only like 98 cents for a bottle, that is what I used....

He's talking about the paint on the turn signal bulbs. I actually scratched the orange paint off mine and now they're clear.

not very wise, oncoming traffic won't be able to see your turn signals. Not too mention its illegal :nono:

I am painting my houseing in m,y headlights today and I was wondering how many bolts hold on the bumper is it just the four or so on the bottom? if you have a picture and can circle the general area I would appreciate it.
Also I am going to paint them black but im not sure if I want to do gloss black or flat black.
albanator
02-19-2007, 07:12 AM
that is kinda funny because I just pulled them off yester day and painted them gloss black...I am just about to put them on here in about 15 min andI will get a pic of them with the gloss and put it up....just by looking at them I think the gloss look better it make them stand out more... but make sure you put a clear caot on them make for the nice shine and look really clean IMO, but I will post a few pics once there one probly by lunch oh and I didn't take off the whole bumper... I just took off the side bolt in the wheel well, the top four and then the two outer most on the bottom... the bumper will flex enough so you can get the bottom bolt that holds the head light there....

Wrong. They are very noticable, even in the daylight (even with my smoked vinyl overlays on my headlights). If anything, the orange paint on the bulbs cut the light visibility. The bulb still makes an amber glow, not a white glow or red glow. A clear turn signal bulb is much cleaner looking than a blue hyperwhite bulb, the same goes for the highbeam bulb too. :ugh:

I am in the process of heTING UP THE EPOXY ON ONE OF THE LIGHTS ANYONE HAVE ANYSUGGESTIONS OF OTHER THINGS TO DO WHILE i HAVE THE HEADLIGHTA APART?
Clean out the insides if there's any evidence of condensation.
Install some angel eyes? :shrugs:
Also, painting the top of the inserts will make it a solid color, like the ones in the pictures above. Painting the bottom of the inserts will leave the ribbed look to it, just like the JDM and HID headlight versions.
http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=237114
In that linked thread, notice the difference btwn the JDM headlights and aftermarket USDM headlights. The JDM ones are blackened but still keep the ribbed look, this can be achieved by painting the underside of the headlight inserts.
If you want a solid black insert, like the aftermarket USDM ones, then paint the top side of the inserts.

So when I take the plastic piece that I am supposed to spray paint just spray the bottom instead of the top. Also Ahould I clean all the plastic parts of my lights with PlastX or just the outside?
How do you want your lights to look? Like the JDM or aftermarket USDM? I've already posted how to get the different results.
Sure, clean the plastic parts out. It couldn't hurt, right? :shrugs:

Another Thing is there a way to get a lot of the old epoxy off the headlights and put new stuff in?

I painted one on the top and one on the bottom but I didn't like the ribed look so I painted the tops of both.... but if you like the ribed look after you paint it you can always just clean off the paint with some paint remover and it will be fine, just takes a little longer that is all but to get what you like. you might want to spend the extra time and do it they way you want to or else you will have the damn I wish in your ear for a while.... but just so you know you can always open them back up and take off the paint and do it a differant way... not like it is a perm thing...

Well I finished my headlights and here are some pics. I am getting my car detailed tomarrow. The previous owners really didn't do a great job at cleaning bug guts off and dirt so the car isn't a beauty yet!!

I got some new picture right after sunset today!!
I am getting some condensation in them but hopefully the heat will remelt the old epoxy some more and seal it all up. I also lined the seals with clear silicone.

they look good but as far as the condensation gose.... you might want to take them out and take a blowdryer to the back side where the rubber gromet is and then take some silicone and make a bead around the outside seam, that way you dont have to take them apart again....and should clear it right up... so just make sure your gromets are seal up right and make that bead and you should be set, told you it wasn't that hard.... they look killer bro nice job!!!
