im going to install a new head unit, 4 channel amp, and sub tomorrow on my GTS. Im planning to remove the stock amp, and run all new wires to speakers. I plan to have the amp power the front components and the sub, while the deck powers the back speaks. Is this all feasable? Or is there a better way? thanks for any help u can give, lates.

Ok... A couple things...

#1 Why do you want to run new speaker wire...? If you will be keeping the stock speakers just use the wires already there. You will save a TON of time.

#2 A 4 channel amp is really designed to run two sets of speakers. (eg. Rear and frint mid-range) If you amp has a built in crossover you won't be able to adjust it right if you run a mid-range speaker and a sub (A sub requires a 100hz or so cut off) unless it has 2 crossovers...

I would suggest the following...
Run both sets of speakers from your deck. As long as it is a 40x4 or so you will be fine. Then, use your four channel amp and bridge it to your sub.

There is another option for you. If you have the premium sound package you could concievably run the front mid/tweet combo and the rear pair off ot the amp and the Sub and front woofers off of the amp. This will only really work well if you can adjust the gain on the amp seperatly for each pair of channels otherwise you may be overpowering your front woofers just to get good results from your sub

Actually he should run new wires to bypass the factory amp. That would be the correct install. How else would you propose he do it?

If your keeping the stock speakers there is no reason to run new speaker wires. I would just splice into the speaker harness at the amp. There is really no advantage to it.

Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the speaker harness at the amp, i.e. what color goes to which speaker?

Ohhhh god dont ask that question. That was my problem a week ago and let me tell you any diagriam i got wasnt 100% correct. Either there was a color in my car that wasnt on the diagram or the colors simply just didnt match. It's such a bitch.

I used the color codes in the installs section here and they matched.

I agree with silverbullet, there are 2 good reasons for bypassing the stock wiring,
1, you can replace it with better quality wire, rather than the cheap 18 gauge the stock wiring is..
and #2, it will make it waaay easier to keep track of what is going where rather than trying to figure out which wires go where with a wiring diagram.
Also, I have my front components powered by a amp, and the rears are coaxials that I power with the deck, since its just fill-in sound anyway it actually sounds quite balanced.

Well the rewiring will make it easier to get everything straight. He still has to re-wire everything to run 6 seperate conections off of 4 channels unless he has an decent amp in his head unit to run a couple. Then he also has to wire everything into the doors. Never tried, but I assume it all goes into the fender somewhere, usually does. Either that or behind the kicks on each side. Lots of work for little benefit.

What guage would you run. 16-18 guage hold 95% and up of power over 20 ft runs. So the 6 ft. he is doing would be at least 97%. no real benefit. without major power and quality upgrades.

You bypass the amp, but as far as running all new wires to the speakers that seems like a total waste of time.

thanks for all your advice guys. Well i ended up splicing the harness from the stock amp, and boy was that a bitch like silverbullet said. Everything sounds fine, powered all by the 50 watt panasonic deck. Next up is installing the amp, and sub
