Gear lock!

Hey guys i'm new here with a 2000 celica gt-s manual.
Toyota put a gear lock in my car after they fixed it up, supposedly to ensure i wouldn't misshift anymore. 3rd gear is really long and close to 5th gear. Is it a simple gear lock that can be taken out or is whole gearing changed? Has this happened to anyone here, feeedback would be grateful and appreciated.

Never heard of that. From your description, if 3rd gear is almost the same as 5th it sounds like they changed something internally on the trans... I would ask them for some more information.

Yeah they made the shift gates wider after 02 because people were blowing out their transmissions because they'd try to down shift to 4th but end up in 2nd. So like 2way said its probably a retrofit

Oh, I've heard of that... I just thought that when he said 3rd gear was really 'long' he ment gear ratio wise! Nevermind... :crazy2:

That's exactly what happened to me. My car is at the dealership right now getting the same retrofits. The shift knob was'nt completely tight and all I can figure is that it rolled in my hand and ended up in 2nd.

tsb retrofit? Links don't work. Is it easy to fix? 3rd gear is a bitch(excuse the language) to get into on a roll. Has my whole transmission been messed with? Damn i'm pissed of a the Toyota dealership, how am i suppose to sell my car like this.
