Every car crowd has its immature haters. This was one from the Cougar clan. It shouldn't be a reflection on the others. Most of them are very nice and helpful. Problem is, most of the ones that will travel all the way to another board are just trying to start stuff.

That was a stupid statement. The Cougar V6 came out at the same time as the last gen Camry V6. The Cougar V6 cranks out 170 HP out of 2.5L. The Camry V6 was putting out 180 HP out of 3.0L. If you're going to compare efficiency, at least pick a Toyota engine in the same class and timeframe as the Ford engine you're comparing it to...

i dont want to start a fuss over this as it was just a joke... but i dont have a camry .. nor did i ever claim that it was more efficient than the couager...
my engine is more efficient than the cougars though... even if its an unfair comparison.
anyway i said it more to be funny rather than informative.. even if ignorant.

The 99 camry V6 had like 192(?) HP and like 209 Tq. The Cougar V6 had 170 HP and 165 Tq. The camry has a ton more torque, and the gas mileage was the same. This is comparing Mercury's sportiest offering to Toyota's docile family hauler.
The 2.5L duratech from the SVT contour would have helped a little bit, but that got canned of course.

It may have not been a politically correct statement but it was an accurate one, at least in comparison of the top line engines for the respective cars. Willis is also correct on the V6s, very close in performance and timeframe, +6% edge to the Cougar in HP and +6% to the Camry in Torque. :)
