This dude with a VR6 at the track was trapping at about 108! The hell does that guy have?! LOL I asked him and he didn't have nitrous or anything... it was a quick conversation but I got the impression he was saying he was running NA.

N/A? Buhahahahahahahahahha. Do you know how much money he would have to throw into the Block to get 13's with that engine N/A? I'll estimate around 10K dollars with parts and labor. WASTE.

Man Ron your always a bundle of knowledge. you can get a new Schrick Intake Manifold, an internal kit to up the compression in that engine. a chip helps a hell of alot when you do internal work as well. all of this is a hell of alot cheaper than on the celica's. oh and for say 3G incuding labor you can be in the low 13's possibly 12's N/A with a Corrado, Jetta, GTI all of which are VR6 heaviest of them being the Jetta

Sometimes i am.. Sometimes i'm not. I see where your comming from but 108Mph Trap speeds just from that? I dunno man.. That's stretching it.

108 trap speed is nitrous with alot of wheel spin.. thats my guess.

1.8Ts can run mid to low 14s with a chip and K&N filter, an aftermarket DV helps.

yes mid low 14s but not at 108mph.. thats hella fast for the 1/4..

Oh yes, of course Larry. I am talking about 1.8Ts, which are a tuners dream... very moddable (which is why I got one, I wanted a Turbo and a new car, it needs suspension work though!).

The VR6 can be modded with cams, manifold, chip, intake, exhaust, SS and a few more NA items.... before going the forced induction route. This also might have had drag radials (maybe NOS) et cetera. But I still don't know if that is enough to make the car run low 13s.... I wonder what he had done to his car.

Theres a guy on 20vturbo.com who has run 13.75 and it is the older 150hp one-modded, the newer 180hp ones are more moddable- 215hp and 247lb-fts of Torque with just a chip. He is runnign on his stock motor, Turbo and internals with not more than US$2,000 (max) on speed-performance mods (he also has other mods for suspension [probably help with 0.1 of a sec or so] , appearance... et cetera).

To get high 13s with a 1.8T, you would need:

Chip ~ $500
Intake ~ $200
Exhaust ~ $450
Downpipe ~ $300
Diverter Valve~ $150
K&N Filter $ 40
-------------------------------------------
Total $1,640
+ SS adapter (optional) $ 50
-------------------------------------------
New Total $1,690
========================
Average cost for a 1.8T, loaded ~ US$20,650 (MSRP US$22,000).
