Hi, I just purchased the Pioneer DEH-P5900IB head unit to replace the stock one in my '01 Celica GT. Now the next step is to replace the stock speakers with something better and eventually a single sub in the trunk. I know that I'll definitely need to buy an amp for a sub, but will I also need one for the four 6.5" speakers in the car, or should the new head unit be enough for them?

Also, does anyone recommend some good 6.5" speakers for someone on a budget of around $50-$75 per speaker? Thank you.

it depends on how much money you are willing to spend. I'd suggest polk and pioneer speakers that have a kevlar woofer and a silk tweeter for greatest clarity.

I have fronts (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069898_35027,00.html)
rears (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069898_191756456,00.html)

these required an amp so they could be powered properly to not distort from being underpowered. but you could also buy some cheap (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069908_291219678_tab=B,00.html?compName =PNA_V3_ProductDetailsComponent) speakers and get average quality without having to buy an amp.

Thank you for the suggestions! Now I'm gonna be on the lookout for Pioneer and Infiniti Reference speakers. I'd like to pay something like 200-250 for all 4 speakers but may go higher if need be.

As far as I am concerned you are wasting your money buying those, but suit yourself. There are much much much better options out there for that 200-250 price range. In my opinion you should not get a rear set as it just ruins imaging anyways. You should definately get a component set and try getting an amplifier for them as well. I am using these right now

and they have gotten very good reviews for their price range. I am using them right now and they are awesome. They can also be had for just within your price range.

i know this is old but if you still havnt gotten around to it.... polk db6500 w/ db650's are great. superb quality in sound and amped can handle more than rated. Wanna get more bass: db212 enclosure comes with 2-12's and omg ...go to circuit city to test drive them. Hits every note so clear and the bass is ridiculous..tried it on a mediocre amp and i turned it off bc my ears were gonna bleed. Kickers, duals, l5's etc...just dont compare at all ....and in the future just run it off a 900w amp and let them shine

I am actually picking up the same HU ...nice and clean, with great funcitonality
