I'm in the process of having a new engine put in my gt-s, i was thinking of having a new clutch put in at the same time as it should be cheaper since the engine is out anyway. The original clutch has about 43k miles on it, only abused once in a while :) What have you guys scene in clutch life span?

I've seen some that will last 50-60k miles and I've seen some that didn't last more than 12k miles. Since you said it'll be easier you might as well do it. Your clutch is probably more dead than alive by now.

If you really can drive and drive normaly your clutch can go over 100K.
But since the engine will be out you might as well renew it. It's not so much extra $$

Unless you can't afford to do it go ahead and do it but get a TRD or other after market clutch.

It depends on how well you shift and how much you abuse the clutch. I've had my share of fun with my MR2, and it's got 233k miles on the orginal clutch. If you really abuse the clutch, you can get less than 10k. I don't see the reason to fry a clutch on pointless street races. Not worth the cost and effort.

I've had my clutch replaced under warranty not too long ago. My old clutch had 20000 miles on it and it was pretty much fried. I abused it pretty bad... I ain't gonna repeat that mistake twice.. Supposedly your clutch can last more than 100k on normal driving condition. Like what yakko-R said, no point of burning your clutch on street races.

146000 miles still going strong, no slip--Subaru Legacy 93.

Avg. life of a clutch should be last at least 100k + miles, granted if you treat your clutch right way. My 87 celica ran 250k miles with original clutch, but throwout bearing started to make a whistle noise, so i changed the clutch with the new one. And surprisingly clutch still had a pretty good wear, my mechanic told me that it could go easily another 50k, but I decided to change anyways.

:) :) Mine only lasted 16k miles so they gave me a second one for free. :) :)

I dunno if you can expect the same from the clutch on the GT-S, but I saw a 130k miles on my stock clutch on my CRX before it finally pooped out.

any test you can do to check if your clutch is still good?

200,000 miles on my last car (some racing involved also, but mostly granny driving).
The average life is going to be around 50,000 to 60,000 miles.
It's how you treat the clutch determines the life.
quick reference, mechanics charge a minimum of 6 hours of labor, not including machining the flywheel, multiply it by, say $70 per hour, and you get $420 in labor alone.

While going about 30mph put it in 5th gear and press the gas pedal, don't floor it but give about 3/4 throttle. If your clutch is in good shape car will bog pretty bad, but if clutch is end of it's life it'll slowly rev up cause it's slipping and that's a bad clutch.

do a standing start with 2nd gear or start your car on a steep hill.
