View Full Version : racing - keeping revs up
any1 know how i can keep my revs above 6000 when i switch gears from first to 2nd?
tbe gas shut off kicks in quite early and it's hard to switch gears and keep the rpm above 6000rpmthe whole time.
any tips?

Don't take your foot of the gas when you shift. Very bad for the car though. I guess you bought a 2002. The 2000 and 2001 don't hit fuelcut til 8300.
oh damn...so thats why!
****ty
do u know the exact rpm gas shut off is at for 2002? the 7800 is just an approximation from what i can see while i'm stepping on it cautiously

the fuel cutoff for the 2002 is at redline i think. should be at 7800 rpm.
as for landing the shift, you have to shift fast, real fast. dont mess anyhting up though, like not using the clutch, holding gas down while shifting. you might want to look into getting a short shifter. that helps.

ahh, even still. I thought that it was easier to land the 1st>2nd on the '02, anyways.

With an 02 Celica GT-S you should be able to keep it above 6k as long as you speed shift the car. When you hit the cut-off, speed shift quickly into 2nd and you'll land @6k all the time. Don't have to power shift to land 6k.:)
what exactly is speed shift? this is my first standard car

Speed Shifting is what it says. Quickly Shift into the next gear when you hit your cut-off and you'll land @6k. The action would be a normal shift. Clutch in- throttle off- drop to 2nd- throttle in and clutch off. Speedshifting is a normal shift that's a lot faster.
i got a 02 gts also...landing above 6k is very hard and i usually only land around 5800-5900 rpms but i have landed above 6000 before...all i can say is to shift right before the fuel cutoff and throw it as smooth and quickly as possible...its very hard but i have done it a few times. every time i landed above 6k there is sum crazy wheelspin on the 1-2 shift hehe. gl and practice =)
