Okay, I search around and didn't find anything so anyone with some info, hook me up. I was wondering if anyone knows what type of paint the shops use to dip the tails lights. (Candy Red) Sort of like what racerette did on her ride. I have a hook up at a paint shop but we have no clue what paint to use. At the same time, I'm going to try to get the concole painted. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I'm talking about "dipping" them at a body shop. Not the testor paints. I'll PM 4B on info, thanks

I got mine dipped like racerette's and 4b's (same shop) but I dont have any idea what paint they used. Check the shops website bodypros.com, they have a lil info about dipped tails there.

haha... yeah I already did vinyl them with some transparent red vinyl. Just the orange part but I want to do the whole thing like racerettes. Since the bay area body shops have no clue what we mean by "dipping", I have to show them a pic and also what type of paint.

Bat: The back tail lights vinyl I bought from you, and also the head light tails, I had to take them off cause the damn neighbors kids f#cked them up. I think they tried to take them off or something. DAMN it!! That's why I want to dipped them now.

EndlessShock: I'll PM you on the info about the tail lights. I know someone that works at a body shop and I may be able to get a deal.

they have no clue what you mean about dipping them because they aren't dipped...there painted.... think about it when you dip your arm in water what happens? it beads up and RUN'S down your arm...do you want your taillights all runny looking, nope you want them sprayed

Well I'm going base on what someone else told me. Someone told me that they dip them. It does make sense! I don't want drip marks on my tail lights.... I want to do this right if possible

tae what work have you done on a car..... I can gaurentee the taillights in question were actually sprayed not diped...... If you believe they were dipped and came out run free and nice and smooth ... I can tell you a secret to adding horse power ..all you have to do is click you gas filler cap an extra 3 times .... I swear this is ignorance at it's best you might have a good post count but you should stick to posting on what you know....

tae ... that was you who posted "btw, i heard that dipping will cost you around $300." that tells me you believe dipping the taillights is not only the proper way to do it but that a shop that does quality work would be willing to mix up paint put it in a canister big enough to fit a tail light and dip it in ...... there sprayed I will say it again they are SPRAYED not dipped

thats a big assumption you got from that statement. but you are right, i dont know much about the subject except for what i have heard so in all fairness, i believe what you say as much as what the next person is telling me. in this case the "dipping" cost that much.

frankly, i dont give a rat's ass how its done so dont try to assume that this went this far because i cared. i hope i'm done.

good all I was trying to do is point kappa in the right direction when you second guess someone an you know nothing on the subject you are stearing a fellow celica owner in the wrong direction. I believe this page is here so we can all help each other out post's should be related to the subject by someone who has a little bit of knowledge on the subject and not just putting hear say down

but you dont even have tail lights.

juicedcelica

right but I did the first year I owned my celica. I also know a great deal about painting car's if you dip anything in the paint it will run.... you can sand down the taillight and paint it but if you dip it it will run... depends on what look you want if you want it done right have it painted if you want it to look like one massive run than dip it...

Sup all, thanks again for the suggestions.... that's why I asked the question to make sure that there was such a thing called, "dipping" 4B PM me back and told me that it's candy apple red transparent paint. I have a feeling that the body shop just sprayed it with many, light coats... but again, thanks for everyone suggestions.... it's always good to double check...

if you dipped the tails, wouldnt paint get on the plastic housing parts, and possibly inside the lens? even if you dip the lens part (bulb holes facing up) paint would get on teh side plastic black pieces. right?

i dont think paint beads up... if its thick enough it will stay on. but im sure it would not create a smooth even surface. ive dipped my paintbrush in model car paints and the would stick, and run off. also dipping would create very thick coats.

Kappa: are you going to cover up your 3rd brake light? is your TRD wing light working? I hooked mine up and it was very easy, if you need help check out Russ' webpage for the instructions.

don't know about you guys....but i used the testors candy paint, and it took a good 10 minutes to do. much cheaper, and if you get a good clear coat to put over it, it won't fade. i did mine slowly, and used light coats, and it turned out real even and smooth. finish it off with the clear coat, and if you've sprayed carefully, it'll turn out almost perfect.

dipped is not actually "dipped" literally in paint, its just a procedure and when done right it'll look liked "dipped" like when you dip an apple into think chocolate. The apple will "look" like it has a thick layer of chocolate, same goes with the tail lights...the paint looks rich and thick BUT transparent

so u get that "running paint" look, right?
hehe. i'm just kidding.
