i just installed my deck i had stored in the closet for months. i wanted to wait until i had an amp or some replacement speakers. now my radio sounds all crappy b/c i no longer have the stock amp going. i only have enough to get a nice 4 channel amp or a set of component speakers plus a set for the rear. so what would be the next thing to do to be closer to having a better sound? i think my speakers are busted in the front and i have no amp. what should i do 1st? speakers? amp?

p.s. are sony xplod amps any good? at least good enough to push your 6.5s? thanx!!

Well, if you didn't know toyota covers the speakers if you have a extended warranty. (The dealer i go to did anyway) Is the amp for the components or for a sub?? because if its for the components what would be the point if the speakers are blown? otherwise, first get new speakers then amp, etc etc

i think my speakers are busted. on certain songs you can hear some distortion. maybe it was just too much bass in the song for the stock speakers to handle. so my speakers may not be. the amp would be the better way if the speakers are not busted?

yes-if your speakers are ok or u can get them replaced then get the amp first. GeeTeeEss was running a new setup off the srock speakers and it actuall sounded pretty good.

What head unit are you using and how much power does it put out. You may not need to amp the front channels at first. An amp on the stock speakers is pointless since they cannot handle much in the way of power anyway. I hope you re-wired your front speakers to run in series when you bypassed the stock amp (assuming you have a GTS w/ premium sound) if not all that is running in the doors are the mid's and tweets' not the woofers. If this is true, it sounds like sh*t. If you did do this, and have a good head unit get components first. you can get a good set of 6.5 comps for 300-400.

a sound shop did it for me and i have no clue if they wired it in series. i think thats what happened. i cant get hardly any bass. i mean i can a little bit but too much and it would sound distorted. i already ordered the amp. well at least i think i did. off ebay. the dude hasn't replied yet. i got a sony xplod. i hope they are good amps. if a shop installs your amp, then they have to run new speaker wires, right?

Some shops will always run new speaker wires others won't. The new amp won't really solve your problem unless they do some fancy wiring. One posibility would be to leave the mids and tweets in the front on the amp for the deck and put the rears and door woofers on the amp. This would give you power to all 8 speakers.

How much power is the amp rated to? How much is the head unit rated to? You might just be duplicating the same problem with a new source. If you look on celica.net, there used to be an install for wiring your front channels in series. This works pretty good. Insstalling an amp by yourself isn't all that hard. Mine took maybe 30-45 minutes and that is the first I had ever installed.

What is your head unit? You may get more help if we knew.
