I bought a 2002 Toyota Celica GT in August. After a few months, I found the brakes began squeaking. I presumed they just needed replaced since I got the car used. When they were replaced, they still squealed.

My mechanic did some further research only to find that he needed to get Toyota brakes and to get some types og clips from Toyota as well because Toyota is aware that the brakes squealed and this was the solution. Well, it did work.

It's been about two months and the brakes have begun squealing when I first go into reverse in the morning. I've read enough online to discover that is apparently a common problem. However, the tend to squeal all throughout the day when I make a right turn. Now, it's not every right turn - just certain instances. I can usually predict when it will happen.

I hate to take it back to the mechanic yet again as this is costing a ton of money. And, his original solution to me was to just play the radio louder. Well, I don't want to brakes to squeal - it's embarassing.

I think I need a slight alignment as I go to the right a bit. Could that be a cuase of the problem? Any other ideas? Thoughts?

Any help is grealty apprecitated.

I think you need to grease up the shims behind the brake pads. You can follow the directions here: http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=168302 to get to the pads. You don't have to go through the trouble of taking the nipple cover off though.

Well, if I was at all mechanically inclined, I would try that. I really just curious to know if this has happened to anyone else and what are all the possible solutions. But, I do appreciate your suggestion.

squeaking brakes is just something some cars have a prob. with. It doesnt have any effect on the brakes working properly. the squeak is mircoscopic chatter movement between the shim and the pad, greasing it stops the sound but the grease will eventually wear off and will need to be applied again. when they installed the new clip they prob greased them too and the fact the grease has worn off is the cause of the squeaking coming back. Simple answer is grease the shims on the back of the pad, or just deal with the sqeak. It is really a fairly simple procedure to do, all you need is a jack and a couple socket wrenches. and since you have a gt you only need to worry about the fronts, as the backs are drums.
