View Full Version : Tint Removal Problem
After removing tint from my windows (what a pain in the ass that was) I'm left with an odd pattern on my window that can only be seen in the sun when looking at the windows at certain angles. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Looks sorta wavy, I guess. I tried to get a picture, but the effect doesn't really show up.
Anybody know what causes this, and if it's possible to get rid of it?

Leftover glue, maybe? Try running a razor blade over the glass and see if it picks up anything. Watch out for the defroster and antenna lines on the rear window, though!

Erc you are a lucky guy. I had the same problem after removing my tints. What this is, is leftover glue. Buy yourself some ACETON and rub it with a cloth slowly. Be careful in the rear window because of the resistance wires in there.
You don't wanna damage them
I really hope it is just glue, cause that odd wavy effect is driving me nuts, looks horrible.
Didn't think there was any glue left over... doesn't feel sticky. I did notice though, that the effect doesn't show up as much on the windows I used a blade on.. and the rear window looks the worst by far, because i didn't dare use a razor blade near my defrost lines.
Thanks for the tips

It is definitely glue if you had your tints off. Try my tip and you'll be OK. It is 5 minutes work.

yeah be really really careful with the razorblade. i scratched up a window on my old mustang trying to take the tint off (man was i pissed). its much better to use that acetone stuff.

How do you remove the rear window with out damaging the defroster??
I have no ideal how to remove that one.......
Is there a chemical I can use to remove it easy??
Other window.. I can just use blade to scrap off the glue.. with good old 409... ^^

Use some ACETON, basically it is nail polish remover. Not that I use any.
Apply some on a piece of cloth and rub it over your windows. That will do.
Be careful while rubbing the rear window because of the defroster. Don't rub the wires.

are u guys sure its the tint? Im not sure what u guys are talking about but i see those patterns on my window also... but I never had tint on it and I bough my car new, I can only see those patters if i look at it in an angle and try really hard. and if i put on sunglasses on a sunnyday i can see it clear as night and day. Mines almost looks like dimond patterns... not really sure never really tried to see what patterns it is.... the patteren is on the side doors and the back, but not sure about the little windown in the back, but i don't think it has those patterns.. and of course the front doesn't... although I did buy my car with 100miles on it :bang:

Erc originally asked this question and he had his tints removed so it is definitely glue in his case. You might have glue in your window because cars usually come with some stickers from the factory. The dealer should remove the glue though.
I scrubbed the windows for about 2 hours this weekend.. tried acetone, a water/vinegar solution, and a water/ammonia solution. (and glass cleaner after that) also removed the door panels to make sure there was no glue on the glass behind the panel.
I still have that odd pattern, and my windows look and feel pretty clean. I'm gonna try to take a picture to make sure we're talking about the same strange looking effect. I never saw the effect until after I removed the tint. I'm wondering if re-tinting the windows would hide the problem.
How is glass smoked? If it's a film on the inside of the window, could it be that the tint glue has damaged that film?
The pattern isn't on the two small rear windows, only on the front windows and the back window.

i know you say that you never see it before, cause its hard to see unless u try looking for it... maybe it was there all the time and u never noticed it until you removed your tint, you should call up toyoda and ask if anyone knows what that pattern in the glass. I think its suppose to be there... either that or I need to get rid of something in my car too... :( Anyways I'll try to get a picture of what im talking about too. Ohh yea, is it alot easier for u to see the pattern when you put on sunglasses?

if it does not feel like glue then it is not glue. When I had my tints removed i could feel the glue sticking.
i don't know guys maybe it's better to ask your toyota dealers.

Not sure about the sunglasses thing, but it shows up very clearly at the end of the day, when the sun is starting to go down. Batteries for my camera are charging, should have a picture tonight if they get charged before twilight.
