????
....I just bought a v1 and a h.a.r.d system and mount to accompany it for use on my bike but i wanna see what your experiences are in hopes to ease my pain of spending 700 bucks on the supposed "best" detector system available.

i have the v1. it caught every cop when i drove to austin and back. except for that one that gave me a ticket. hahaha. but then again. my radar didn't go off until after he got behind me cuz he was also driving, so im guessing he didn't shoot me until then and thats when my radar went off.
v1 is reliable in my eyes, but there is also the new passport 9500 coming out that is supposedly better than the v1? check up on it.

I use a crappy one that I bought from Best Buy. Stupid thing doesn't even really alarm until it's WAY too late.
It's sitting in my closet underneath a bunch of clothes as we speak.

I have the Escort Passport 8500 X50, and I have not received one ticket with this unit. It has saved me countless times.

V1. It is true. Once you have the arrows I could never go back to anything else :)
I have used it mainly on trips from Neb. to Ohio. Saved me probably 10 tickets in the 2 years I have made this road trip.
V1 sucks for city driving. Lots of false warnings on the X and K signals. Supposely there is a way to disable the X band completely, but I would not recommend it. Some cops like to get cute and clock on the X band. Some LED brakelights can set off the Ka band. Highway it is golden though.
My V1 is about 3 years old and I have not paid to have the firmware updated.

yeah crusing down in oregon heading east on 84, about 100~ miles or so down I came across a few cops using x band, also when I was down in cali on 101 in some parts I saw cops using x band also, but i have never seen a cop using x band in any somewhat populated area. but I have a cobra 9300 or 9600 not too sure exactly the model but it was $90 at frys electronics, 360 degree radar/laser detection and it has always picked up as far as I know every cop radaring, and I have actually picked up a couple cops trying to laser me that missed and was able to slow down in time before they could get me again.... that $90 radar detector has saved me more times than I have fingers and toes as far as getting pulled over.

Beltronic's 995 w/ Smart Cord.
The BEL V955 was the best performing radar detector in the below $200.00 price category at the 2007 radar detector test performed by the Guys of Liday.
The BEL V955 includes full X, K, Ka, POP, and Safety Warning System radar capability, front and rear laser detection. The V995 also includes digital signal processing (DSP) for superior range.

I did alot of research before I bought it. IMO best bang for the buck.
165.00 from Circuit City. 30.00 for Smart Cord.
Red LED face (So you can see during the day through glare)
Highway City/City Mode works GREAT to cut down on false alerts.
POP instant detection.
The K/A alert has never let me down.
The optional Smart Cord is nice. Built-in alert lamp, pilot light, mute button. You can dim down the display completely so the cops can't see it from behind.
Most importantly the thing is LOUD as fvck! I can be @ WOT with the music cranked and always hear alerts.
I've own a Corba and Whistler and both were crap. I've gotten a couple tickets due to not being able to hear the alert, see it was going off (glare), and picking up the K/A clock to late.
You really do get what you pay for in radar detectors.
V1's (arrows rock) & Passport's are awesome and I plan to get one down the line, but for the price and the detection level you can't beat it, if you can't afford to spend 300 on the latter.

Cheap things aren't good, good things aren't cheap.
Anyways, I'm done with speeding / driving like an idiot so I don't really see the point in getting another radar detector. But if I did (or I just have cash to burn), I'll definitely invest in something that actually works properly. The only thing the Cobra was good for was letting me know that the automatic doors at Target and Best Buy were working.

Im actually quite the radar detector guru after being a member on radardetectors.net for quite some time and have owned about 20 of them things... The top two in my opinion are the V1 and Passport 8500 X50. The X50 is better for city driving and the V1 better for highway driving and is much better at picking up laser (which is pointless because you lasered you get ticket) anyways Cobras SUCK. I actually know someone that had there cobra light on fire while he was driving... Bel has the best detectors for under and around 200. You can can a Bel 945 for like 120 and its pretty decent. The detector im using right now is actually a Whistler Pro 73 and for 130$ its not too bad for the casual 5-10 over the speed limit but it falses alot so ill probally sell it.
