I was thinking about trading my gt in for a gts, but i had a few questions. I still am paying for the gt and i wasnt sure how a trade in works in my situation. I just dont want to end up losing thousands of dollars. any advice will help.

If you are trading in, expect to lose some money. The dealer will guaranteed give you the lowest price possible for your car - I've been there and tried it. But if you feel the trade is worth it and you can afford it, why not? The GTS is a good base for a lot of modifications - and comes (besides a neat engine) with 6 speed tranny and disc brakes on all wheels - stock!

When it comes to your car loan, usually the dealer can help you out with a new loan on your "new" car. But this is also a place where you might lose money, as the dealer might not give you the best financing.

You might consider selling your car to a private party, that should give you the best price. Depending on how big a loan you have on your current car, you could possibly go to Prosper.com and get a peer-2-peer loan to pay off your car, sell your car for cash and use it towards a used GTS.

Anyway, if you chose to trade-in/sell - make sure the car looks its best inside and out. Nothing is more of a turn-off than unkempt car.

I hope this can help you out in your decisions.

Nice first post. That pretty much sums it up.

BUT ... if you're gonna trade in and lose money, why don't you just get something better? IMHO going from one Celica to another, even if it's a higher trim model, is silly, especially if you're gonna lose money.

When I traded in my car, I was $1000 negative due to all the miles I racked up. But as you can see in my sig, it was definitely worth it. If you ARE going to trade it in for another Celica, hopefully you'll feel good about it (IE justify that it was worth it) and not regret anything, because unless you're paying cash, this decision will stick with you for the next 3+ years.

When you go into the dealer play stupid and if they ask if your trading anything in say no. Then when they start to run numbers and everything, then mention you may actually have a car to trade and see how the numbers change. Thats probably a good way of actually seeing how they work with you. You may just be better off keeping the celica you have. Good luck.

i work at a dealership in nj, and yes you will lose money on your trade but see if its worth it make sure you know what the car is worth that your buying and what your car is worth this way you can make the dealer an offer if they see a small profit where you get the car you want they get to make a little bit of money everyones happy check the galves book to see what your car is worth and also the gts your looking at if you know all that even thou they may not like it chances are they got that gts at a steal trust me i know these things they may take your offer because the gts is not a high demand car especially with a stick shift to 90% of car shoppers do your homework and youll be fine...
