I was driving on the 5 South today in the morning, and all of a sudden i hear this ||||| LOUD ||||| buzzing and scratching noise from outside my car.
I turn on my hazards and pull over...tires are ok (i thought it was my tires).
I drive off and the same freakin noise again!
I flip the hazards and pull over AGAIN...tires are ok...no plastic bags hanging out from the car...
I drive off...and it happens again..

I finally found out what it was when i pulled into a gas station. The engine plastics that cover the bottom of the engine (plastics you have to remove to change oil) were dragging on the freeway!!! It smelled like burning plastic, and the plastic was all curled up from the friction and heat.
Now I gotta go out and buy new plastics and try and reinforce them again to my already messed up stock front bumper..

The day did not start out too well for me...:wtc: :wtc:

That happened to me when I got into an accident this winter. I got hit on the passenger side quarter panel and bumper, and it tore off the screws that held in the engine plastics. After the incident when I was driving home... BAM! SCRAAAAAAAPE! I pulled over and saw the panels folded under the car. I didn't have anything to take them off with or at least cut the parts that were dragging, so I had to drive home with the noise. 100 miles away! :(

You never bothered to look under the car??!?

How about this one. I am pulling into my driveway when all the sudden I hear clanking after going over a speedbump. I thought the exhaust fell off, or a far remote possibility the lugnuts stripped on one wheel causing the noise (this happened to me before on a old car, wheel nearly fell off when driving). Anyway, I look under and pulled out a ****ing rain gutter nail from the bottom. By some stroke of luck, it pierced through a little rubber piece covering a hole in the otherwise metal floor under passenger footwell.

yeah I am rolling around w/o the plastics in the bottom. I doubt they are essential. weirdest thing that has happen to me is that after driving about 25 mins to my girl's house I pulled up to her house and just aw I put thew car in neutral teh car goes nuts and starts to idle like at 4500 rpms!!!!!! I shut it off turn it back on and the car still idles hard only this time it pulsates from 3500 to 5000. I freak out and turn it off for like 1 hour. turn it back on and everthing is normal> weird but it happened.

my oil cover is all fuxed up, lowered near the ground the thing rubs all the time, came off a few times too... it is kinda good to have tho i figure, its scraping the plastic cover instead of my oil pan

The exact same thing happened to me just 2 days ago! I was going kinda fast on the highway and i guess the wind resistance ripped the front of the plastic pieces from the bumper. This had happened to me before but i thought i had secured the pieces well enough last time because i bought new plastic clips to hold them up. I ended up using a pair of sissors that i had in the car to cut the front part of the plastic pieces off. The dealer said they would cost about $160 to replace =P $160 for $5 worth of plastic.

this happened to me too....its hella weak

c-one makes a replacement out of metal....MUCH better protection

they use it on their rally cars to protect the oil pan and engine from huge friggin rocks...

those of you who want it call IPN motorsports in houston TX...they can get ahold of C-ONE parts...i almost bought the metal thing from them, but decided i didnt drive my GTS in rocks enough and didnt need the COOL FACTOR of a metal skid plate yet.

Damn, I thought it only happened to me.

Same thing happened to me almost two months ago. I was coming home from a celica meet with EzRidA, BadTOYO, and Kelica2000. At 110 + mph, I didn't hear anything, but everyone started pulling to the side of me and was telling me that my undercarrage plastics came off. So we just ripped it out under the car and drove home. When I got home, I found out that also my A/C condenser got messed up too! I finally find time last week to take my car to the toyota dealership. I pretty much bitched them out that the undercarriage was messed up by them and that because of the plastics coming off, the condenser got dented and that the A/C doesn't work anymore. Luckily, they fixed everything under warranty. The mechanic who fixed my car also told me that I should put a mesh grill in the front of the car and that he just finished fixing another celica and that person paid almost a 1000 dollars to replace.

Yeah, same thing happened to me as well. I was in the middle of nowhere while driving across the country and mine were dragging and burned up/damaged beyond repair, so I had to cut them completely of with a razor. I drove the rest of the way and got them replaced here completely under warranty. I showed them an oil change receipt a dealer did about a month before and claimed negigence on their part not putting the covers back on correctly. They replaced every piece no questions asked :).

yep,...same thing here...i didnt tighten the front plastic one ..and i was on the freeway..now the passenger side underneath platic has no screws helping it and theres a burnt hole thats there..i was gonna just use duct tape to patch the hole..and use wire tie to keep it together....do we really need that plastic underneath it...

ok, here's mine. the day I picked up my car with the buddy club kit installed (wasn't fully completed, shop ran out of grill material so I had to come back for it) I start driving on the hgihway and didn't get 5 miles before I hear extreme scraping. Sounded like the bumper fell off and was dragging. I get out and see that the plastics all curled under the car, cause the shop never attached them after installing the new bumper (the plastics don't reach all the way to the new bumper). So I bungied them up, and that held till i got back to the shop for them to complete the install, all has been well since.

I remember people discussing this before. It seemed that the plastic was placed there to improve the aerodynamics of the car. It was also made to stabelize the car at high speeds. So if the car is more aerodynamic you will get better fuel consumption.
BTW has anyone read about the Infiniti G35 Aero package? It is supposed to have a very well designed underbody that is very aerodynamic.

Same thing happened to me! Don't bother man, I never got my plastics replaced. Just dont drive through any water and u'll be ok. I change my own oil, but i took my car to toyota for the 30k check up, and they changed my oil when i told them not to, and they left the front bolts that hold the plastics on off....so I was driving down the highway when I heard a scratching noise. At first I thought it was my tires, but I knew i wouldnt have been able to control it so easily. So I got off and checked it out and it was my plastics. I used those tie things and put them back up. It has worked good so far.

Hey i just got my oil change the other day at jiffy lube and i told them about the cover and everything went ok.
I went ahead and looked under the car and i could tell one plastic clip or bolt was missing in the front. But i looked fine. So ill have to say is toyota better ****ing fess up to their build quality when it comes to their bumper to bumper 3 year warrenty.
I plan on extending it to 5 year bumper and 7 year engine and i was thinking about getting an intake and exhaust but i dont think that will happen anytime soon.

Same thing happened to me after my dealer fixed my belt tensioner.

I took it back to them, explained it and they took responsibility, no questions asked. They apologize to me many times and temporarly fixed the plastic for me while they put a NEW one in order.

Makes sense because there are air vents on them towards the rear.

C-One Aluminum Under Panel:

"The high-speed travelling time the turbulent air occurs in body lower part and between the road surface, the air is not discharged smoothly from the around the engine. This has produced effect to also the cooling effect of the engine not only becoming air resistance. As for aluminum under panel flow of air of body lower part smoothly rectification. Furthermore the 2mm thick lightweight aluminum make which considers in weight increase.

* Because it is not thick aluminum under guard for dirt travelling which designates the shocking protection of engine lower part as purpose, you cannot use for rally and dirt trial. "

wtf is c-one trying to say hehe.

$120 isn't bad if that's for both pieces. wonder if it has the removable flap to make oil changes easier. If so we should setup a group buy. Looks like a lot of people could use it.

Yup, same thing here..I forgot to put a couple of nuts back after cleaning my intake....driving down the highway I hear that loud clanking noise...I freaked!

Pulled over, damn plastic thing was barely hanging on!! I just put the nuts back on...and it seems to be holding up ever since!

I have the left side still on, but the right side (oil filter side) fell off when I was flying down the freeway. I dragged it for about 1/2 mile before I could get off and the whole front was sanded down perfectly by the asphalt.
At least my oil changes are easier.;)
