01' Gt-s Vs 02 Gt-s

The specs for the 01 and 02 celica are almost indentical but I have gotten the impression from some posts on this board the the 02 Celica GT-S is not as fast as the 01 GT-S Celica. I would like to know cuz I am about to sell my GT-S Auto for a GT-S Manual and would like to know if I would be better off getting an 01 or an 02?

they are identical except for one major thing. The 02 has a 7800 rpm rev limiter so you won't be as fast as a 01. The 02 has a new shift gates so you won't be as likely to mis-shift which is a good thing. If you do decide to get a 01 make sure that it doesn't have the rev limiter because that started near the end of the 01 production year.

Even if it has a rev limiter can't it be removed? Also would it be feasible to change the shift gates from an 02 to an 01?

No, the limiter can't be removed. No company has been able to hack our ECU yet. The change (lower rev limiter AND wider shift gates) happened around April or May of '01.

I think it would be more work (and $$$) than it's worth to switch back to the '00-'01 shift gates. They shouldn't have any effect on the car's performance.
