Has anybody else been hassled by cops just for driving a Celica? Today, I was just driving around, driving at the speed limit, basically being an angel! I turn left on an arrow into the middle lane (which is where I was supposed to go, 'cause there was another turning lane to my left). On the other side, I see this red cavalier turning right onto the same street. So I'm watching, ready to brake if required, and the Cavalier goes into the rightmost lane. "Cool", thinks I, "no problem". So I speed up a bit, and this Cavalier starts wandering over into my lane when the front of my car is beside the back of it! Slam brakes, honk horn, Cavalier pulls back into its lane, I drive past it, the lady driving it looks embarassed, like she knows it was her mistake. A few blocks later, I pull into a parking lot, I'm waiting for a guy leaving his spot, and this Taurus pulls up behind me. Woman gets out, smiling, so I have no clue what's going on. She comes to me and tells me she's an off-duty cop, and she's gonna write me up for dangerous driving first thing tomorrow when she goes to work. I say, "what did I do? Is this about the red Cavalier?" and she says, "oh, that's the least of it!" I ask if she can explain, and maybe I can defend myself, and she just tells me again she's gonna write me up, she gets back in her car and takes off! WTF?!!! I did NOTHING wrong! The only thing I did that was out of the ordinary is avoid an accident!

Anyhow, just needed to vent. But seriously, has this type of thing happened to anyone else?

I think she was just trying to scare you.. Next time write her license number down and say she was driving crazy in her car chasing you..

Wrong.... i had a state policeofficer off duty write me a ticket the next day i was speeding down the highway techinically it was a 65zone i was doing like 75-80... and passed him i seen a state police sticker on his back window but whatever dont matter as soon as i passed him i changed to the lane he was in... i was in front of him now.. all of a sudden he turned on his highbeams (taking down my plate) and im like wtf... so i turn my mirror tab down to nightdriving mode... about two days later i got a ticket for 375.00 for speeding and trying to race a police officer... haha first of all he had a full size suburban... there's no chance he's gonna keep up with me but needless to say he sent me a ticket.. i got a court hearing on the 15th of this month lets see what happaneds.. but this was on the 8th of july and on the ticket it said he wrote it on the 9th of july and i didint get it untill the 10th of july.. anyhow i think i got a ligitimate bitch in court but dont kid yourself they will try to pull this **** off.. and he did it only because i had a celica and he was jealous!

I know cops are only doing their jobs, and if I wasn't speeding, it wouldn't matter, but listen to this: There's this place where 2 roads merge, and I'm in this "cattle shoot" of 2 lanes, and going to merge onto a 4 lane highway. So, I'm in the left lane, and I gotta get into the rgiht lane of this 2 lane area, then into the right lane of the 4 lane thing. That's like 5 lanes I gotta get across, and lots of traffic. So I speed up to...oh, 90 or so, so I can get infront of a whole bunch of traffic. I shift over 2 lanes, and bam, I see a cop behind this van. By the time I saw him, I had slowed down to 65 or 55, I forget, and he pulls up behind me. I switch lanes as if I didn't notice him, signiling, looking over the shoulder, and he pulls up next to me, I shift lanes again. He just drives right next to me, paces me, and just gives me the eye. He would have turned on his lights, it was a state trooper, but I felt so bad for speeding. I wasn't speeding to race, but only to get around traffic, but state troopers don't give a ****. Either way, I know that he gave me the guilt trip of his day.

Well I am sorry if I am wrong.. But I just could not see that happening.. For one it is dangerous for off duty police to be enforcing the law like that. I cant see to many departments supporting that..

Besides when you go to court you could easly say you were avoiding some crazy person in a car behind you only to later find out that it was a cop.. I am sorry but there are a lot of problems with cops trying to do things like that and I would be pretty sure that the courts and the Higher up in the dept would not be too keen on these types of tickets..

I had this happen to me: A fat **** in a taurus pulls up next to me at a red light. Tells me to roll down my window. So I do. He says "you d-d-didn't come to a complete stop at that stop sign back there." so I say "um...okay...I'm sorry?" he says "can I see your license and registration?" MIND YOU HE'S STILL SITTING IN HIS CAR and WE'RE STILL AT THE RED LIGHT. so I say "uh, are you a police officer?" he says again "I want to see your license and registration" I say "I'm not showing you anything until you show me a badge." "I l-l-left my badge at the s-station" AT this point the light turns green...so I say "if you're a cop, come catch me." and I take off. and obviously, he didn't follow me...because he wasn't a cop. That's the second time a person has come up to me and pretended to be a cop. it really pisses me off. If a plain clothed person comes up to me, I'm not doing anything until I see a badge.

I had two incidents where people have tried something like that.

The first I was driving my GF home at about 2AM on a 2 lane road in Brandon FL. I see headlights catching up real quick from behind me and I speed up a bit thinking it's probably a drunk. The person gets right on my tail, close enough for me to see the Honda Badge on the front, and starts using blue flasher bulbs where the foglights were. Keeps speeding up and getting right on my tail. He could have passed me so ovbviously this guy was full of it. I just kept driving. when he followed us into her neighborhood we both pulled out our cell phones and he saw it, and took off.

Second time I had some guy try to pull the same thing that happened to Han. Except I didn't even roll down the window. Just kept right on driving.

It is very dangerous for a cop to try to pull someone over when they are off duty. The only people I have seen do it are over zellous rookies or people on a power trip. I know of at least one that got killed. It's not supported by any PD department I know of. And you can probably win in court. In addition, if she was real, she is going to have a real problem finding evidence to support her claim. No radar, no dash recording, and probably won't even accurately remember the situation. I doubt she will even remember what color your car is. A lawyer would have a field day with it. If you loose the initial court appearance, appeal and take it up the ladder. The DA, if he is smart, won't pursue it.

Don't ever ever go giving out your liscense and stuff without seeing a badge. I have heard many stories like this, there are too many whackos out there to risk it. If they insist on bugging you, have them follow you to the nearest police station. If they are a real cop, they have to prove it to you. My ex GF got pulled over one time by a guy with a lightbar. Turned out to be some wingnut who wanted a date...

Um, one time me and a friend pulled onto this 4 lane Highway to race. we slow down, traffic behind us has to brake lol. We take off, then all of a sudden this SUV honks and passes and this dyke cops puts her badge on the window, lol. Just kinda laughed, and zoomed off.

they have programs where people can call in to the police department and report unsafe/drunk/retarded (etc) drivers. maybe she was just one of those overzealous citizens who want to "do their part for society" or whatever nonsense they say to justify themselves... u'll prob win in court if u wanna take it there...

You guys wanna hear something funny...my friend has strobe lights in his Civic and the other night he was driving around and this guy cut him off so my friend got pissed and turned on his strobes and the guy pulled over. So my friend gets out of his car and says "Gotcha f*cker!" Then he got back in his car and took off. He said the dude was so pissed when he found out he wasn't a cop. I was laughing my ass off when he told me...haha.

Well, this woman definitely did tell me she was a cop. But the more I think of it, the more I think that was bull****. She didn't give me her name, nor did she ask to see my licence! She just said she was gonna go from my car's license plate, which is total crap imho. If she is a cop, she's not a very professional one!

I think its like 90% chance that I never hear about this again, but if I do, I'm getting a lawyer and going to court. There's no way I'm gonna just take that ****!

Man I can't believe that Sh*t ever happening in Los Angeles. I would have followed that lady and got her plates. Either way she'd be in trouble for trying to pull that crap off.

An off duty cop's ticket will not hold up in court if u deny that u were pulled over.
They will need your signature to hold up in court.

I had an incident where my friend got pulled over driving my car. Now he didn't have his drivers license but mine was there so he showed the cop my drivers license, signed my name.
I contested the ticket and said I never got a ticket.
the case got dismissed because the signature wasn't mine.

so in the case of the off duty, if u don't sign it they can't get you. Plus they can't get you after the fact.
For the guy who got the ticket, i don't see how they can get you.

You must be doing something wrong if cops are harassing you. I don't get bugged, and I stand out like nothing else on the road. I love the way yellow looks, but it attracts too much attention.

Umm, that's a pretty flawed logic. I don't think you can safely come to that conclusion based on a sample size of 1...

I'll say it again, I was NOT doing anything wrong! I avoided an accident with another driver who would have been at fault had it occured, not me. This is the FIRST time anything like this has happened to me, so I'm not saying its a general trend, but its apparently not impossible, since it happened.

first off... yeah a off-duty cop can write you a ticket.. but that means crap for many reasons

the cop never pulled you over... right there he is not following procedure

thats like getting a court order in the mail saying you were involved 5 car accident, on such on such a street, when u dont even live in that town

just goto court, and goto the prosecutor .... i never even knew there was a cop on this road... i get this notice in the mail thinking its silly....

the officer HAS to pull you over, cause he has to notify you what offense you have committed...

and technically i dont think u have to stop anyhow for unmark police cars... especially an offduty cop car....

i know how u all feel, when i first bought my celica.. like after a week of driving it with the temp plates still on it.. i get pulled over on my way to work...

cop said i was evading a police officer... cause u know its so illegal to turn off a street when a cop follows u with his lights off...

then he has me get out of the car.. searches my car without consent... calls backup on me.... then tells me i was speeding... and that i could goto jail for evading a police officer.. and i am like you did not have your lights on, since when is illegal to turn off a street?

then he had me empty my pockets etc... called like 2-3 squad cars for backup on me..... then he give me a careless driving ticket...
i goto court... i had to get a f**king lawyer which was 700... my lawyer basically bitches out the cop.. i was in court no joke 5 min... i get the ticket thrown out of court... but i had to pay some 150 court fee.. so like 1k for a fricken 2 point ticket

next time no lawyer

call the police station up and complain

say u were profiled? lol

It's definitely better than black during the hot Texas summer. It also doesn't show swirl marks like black. Yellow is the only color to get a Ferrari in. Racing yellow is a nice shade.

You will get a lot of Reserve deputies that get on their little high horse about SH*% like speeding.. I am lucky I am in the military.. I drive home to New Orleans whenever I get the chance and have been pulled over quite a bit.. even if I am not about to deploy I tell them I am .. and show them my ID... and its .. PEACE...

yeah also never pull over for anyone in a regular car.. if you do.. make it a very public well lit place.. and I keep mace in my center console for the poor ******* who tries to play some fake cop crap.... instant bitch... just add mace....
