I know the lift bolts....whats up with those...is it just the factory ones go bad....what if i replace them now will those go bad too?

what low cost things can I do to add performance.....

I think Toyota will hook you up with the appropriate, new bolts that won't break. When you get it, change the oil, clean the MAF sensor with some brake cleaner, seafoam the hell out of your gas, oil and through one of your vacuum hoses and you'll be good to move onto some real mods from there!

1. Rims
2. lowering springs or coilover
3. Col Air Intake or Short Ram intake
4. black out tail lights
5. full body kaminari kit
5. s2000 antenna(I'm not sure but I think I still have mine eventhough my celica is gone)
6. spoiler
7. floor mats(billet)
8. TRD exhaust
9. headers

Some of those that I mentioned are not cheap but I'm just giving you an idea and just take your pick. Payce!

35k miles nice, i got my car with only 16k miles and its 03, you are one lucky ******* for finding an 00 GTS with that low of milage.
I'd say start yourself off with a pat on the back and get yourself an exhaust, not a ricer exhaust either. Easiest mod imo when you're considering i/h/e. Then I say lower it, might as well get coil overs, cause if you get springs, you gotta get struts.
Removing butterfly valve will make your car sound better, but its free to do.
oh yea and kill some civics!

I say stay away from body kits and spoilers but thats up to you.

There's a whole bunch of things you can do... I suggest you get use to your car first. Then you'll appreciate the difference when you start adding in the mods.

learn to drive it well, do regular maintaince..new oil change, tranny fluid change..valve cover gasket, lift bolts, new spark plugs..check brake pads and rotor..brake fluids..etc...

that's what i did..then afterward mod it..kinda have the ease of mind knowing the oil got change, and such..since u did it urself after all..

do a engine flush before you put new oil, and the most important get familiar with the gear box.
If you shift below 4k you'll get about 320-380miles/gallon
anything above 5k would suck ur gas up.

35000 miles on a 00'?!
thats awsome
mine's an 04 and i have over 60000 :faint:

but as far as modding it
-i'd say throw some coilovers or a nice set of springs and struts cuz the stock celica looks like a monster truck
-sway bars
-front tower strut bar
-3 point rear strut/brace
-cai
-hks hi-power
-ported headers
-nice light 17'' wheels and nice tires

and then play with your exterior looks
ps
dont get shiny altezza tails (ugly)
and dont forget to get rid of your RC looking antenna and get an s2k antenna

if you clean the engine up internally after you drive it a bit you'll notice a difference. greener was right on with cleaning the MAF, oil change, and seafoam. The butterfly valve is free and does sound good. Exhaust is easiest bolt on, Intake is next, and Header is a little more complicated. or you could save money and go F/I when you have the cash. but def. get aquainted with your vehicle first

On the cheap side, get a Gatorback belt. The belt tensioners can be an ear ache at start-up when its wet and/or cold. Check the service records to see if the tensioner has been changed. I have changed mine 3 times on my '00 GTS.

be nice to it right away and definatly get used to the gearing, prolly the #1 cause in blown gts motors are from mis shifts. start off with all the usual maintenance make sure everythings in good order. my first mod would be a CAI, lift + CAI =

MKE

ok, so that's all the good. but how about the problems celica's have? I'm still a new owner of an 00 gts, and i'm finding more and more stuff as time goes on.

the only one that seems to be for early celicas has to do with the belt tensioner, water pump, and the popular lift bolts.

Learn to land into lift from gear to gear. Learn to launch w/o wheel hop. Afterward get a Stage 2 Clutch and Light flywheel and then have some real fun.

Not to mention bolt-ons, I/H/E and BB mod, TWM short shifter is nice as well.......as far as maintenance: Lift bolts, new water pump, check belt, belt tensioner, flush engine, Redline MT-90 tranny fluid, change oil, change cabin airfilter (behind glove box), check to make sure brakes are good and abs kicks in, Engine compression test, and new iridium spark plugs will pretty much sums it. At 35k the suspension is fine i would assume, you could also check the back pressure make sure you exhaust has no leaks. But most importantly do not fly by like a ricer after a faster car has beaten you. Get performance mods in, learn the car, how it handles, how much the suspension can take, how to land into lift, and how to deal with cops, bc the celica is one hell of a cop magnet.....I got pulle dover 3 times when i bought it new the same day.
I hope you enjoy the car, treat it well and it will treat you well.

wait a minute!!! 6spd or auto? lol

An excellent question that hasn't been asked.

If it's a 6-speed;
Intake
Exhaust
Header (not headers, there's only one)
Short shifter
Lightweight Flywheel / clutch
Anti-sway bars
Struts/springs

If it's an auto;
Tranny swap, then refer to list above.

Good luck, welcome to the family.

What kind of oil does gts take anyway?? Does it have to be syn? That's what I been using, but it got expensive.

sTyLn_GTS
05-15-2007, 09:31 PM
The most popular oil members here use is Mobil One Syn 5-30 I believe. U dont have to use Syn but it is strongly recommended if u have a GTS & planning on using lift. It will help your engine prevent wear & tear more then regular oil. People called regular oil "dinosaur oil" for a reason...

What are lift bolts?

redwing
05-28-2007, 04:04 AM
lift bolts are two bolts on the overhead cams that prevent the rotation of the high profile high lift cam shims that slide into the valve rockers to provide
lift at 7000 rpm so that the engine can rev to 8,300 rpm.

Lift sends the valves further into the cylinder head so that the engine gets more air/fuel and can exhaust easier & faster.

The lift is activated by the lift oil pressure switch at 7000 rpm.

They (lift bolts) have a perpensity to crack or break off and need to be changed out.

Once they break the engine will not rev over 7000 rpm
engine also will not rev over 7000 if engine is not warmed up or if ecu is in safety mode.

There is a sticky post that fully explains lift at the begining of the discussions/
threads of the forum that you should read for a better understanding.

Lift is toyota's version of / answer to / honda's vtec.

*cough* lift is at 6100 rpm

Hi I'm new here. Is there any way to get an aftermarket or reworked head that can establish lift at a lower RPM band, say 5000rpm?

Carbonized_GT
05-29-2007, 01:29 AM
a reworked head wont do much to alter Lift engagement. What you need is an Apexi PFC(Power FC)

I believe a few members have experimented by lowering Lift to that low of an RPM, very little HP was made.

DNSerrano
05-29-2007, 01:50 AM
Ohh alright I see, so you basically need like a piggy back computer system in order to tell it when to engage. I see, thats very interesting. I'm late in the variable valve field as is Mitsubishi in the US, so I'm learning little by little before I get a Celica.

Carbonized_GT
05-29-2007, 02:32 AM
There is only 1 piggy back that will control VVTLi and thats the Greddy V-Manage. But even then your paying for just that valve timing.

My suggestion is to just spend the extra cash and go for the full standalone, the pfc.

DNSerrano
05-29-2007, 04:25 AM
Oh a standalone ok ok I get you. How far back can you engage lift, like at what RPM is the limit?

1. Suspensions
2. Wheels
3. CAI or SRI
4. Exhaust
5. Bodykits
6. Exterior mods (lights, vynals, antennas etc)
7. Interior mods (dash, center consoles, stereo, seats etc)

then after that, if you ballin outta control, you can turn it into a non NA car like supercharge, turbo, engine swaps, pfc's etc.
