View Full Version : King springs?
HI, Iam a new owner for a 2k2 Celica and looking for lowering the car.
For anyone who have King Springs installed, are they any good?
Having smooth ride or very bumpy for normal driving?
What about performance in the coners?
I've got a quote for AUD$450 (fitted), is that a good price??
Thanks in advance.

Price is about right and should include a wheel alignement as well, after the springs are installed.
I've had mine for about the last 30,000km for my car. Very happy with them. 35mm lower at the front and 40mm lower at the back. Less body roll through the turns and is not tough on the stomach on the bumps either. If you want a smooth ride, you should've bought a sedan. They are a good set of lowered springs.

I have not tested at what RPM exactly the rev limiter kick in, but I rev it over 8000 several times. So I think the lowered rpm limit don't apply to my car.
And thanks for the info Jason, I'm looking for a firm but not bumpy ride.
Btw, I have the TRD body kit as you do, you have any problem going into driveways/curbs with the lowered body? (Toyota dealer told me it'd be too low to install the lowering springs with the body kits)

Clearance at the front, you have to be careful. Take it a bit on a angle on dips but most drive ways are ok driven normally. With the side skirts you have about a upright coke can gap from the ground.
The reason the dealers said that is because they want to cover their own asses in regrads if you have problems and try to make any claims on damage from lowering the car. Quite a few guys have king springs on their car here an no problems at all.

You could probably shop around a bit more and see how you go, usually i find buying the parts seperately from another store then getting them fitted elsewhere turns out cheaper.
For arguments sake, I was quoted $260 for the springs from supercheap auto and $149 (inc. alignment) from ian diffens world of mufflers and tyres for fitting. On the other hand, i was quoted $540 from City Suspension for the same thing with parts provided. (the above are all brisbane stores btw)

Hey Jove,
Welcome to the list!
Just be wary of getting lowered springs and keeping the stock shocks. I was going to do it but was talked out of it because apparently it makes your shocks wear out REALLY quick. 'Cos they aren't designed for lower, stiffer springs they are partially compressed all of the time.
You should consider getting suitable replacement shocks at the same time - if you can afford it (I sure couldn't!)

Hi Jove
I've got king springs and the ride is fine. My car is lowered 2.5inches in the front and 2inches at the rear.
When driving on a normal road, it is very smooth, but when you go over a speed hump, the bump is exagerated, but thats expected from a lowered car.
In terms of handling, Jasons right, there is much less body roll.
I say stick with the stock shock till the are worn...no point in replacing perfectly good shocks!!!
I've also got the TRD lip extension on my front bar. You just have to take it slo and one wheel at a time when going in and out of driveways. But speed humps are fine.

speed humps...i hate them!!
any lowered car is going to be a firm ride. Just dont lower it too much, and u should be ok. Im with nigainazr :p, dont change the shocks if your car is brand new. u r better off spending the money elsewhere, like an exhaust.
2.5" front and 2" rear drop seems too much for me. I'd prefer a 1" front and 1"5 rear. I've got a tough driveway right out of my door...
I think TRD springs will suits me better, but it's a lot more costly($700 fitted, quoted from dealer)

a 1inch drop at the front and 1.5inch at the rear is barely noticeable. Just measure ur car up and get them to make the springs how u want.

from my experience King springs are just mere cosmetic for your car...I would rather invest on something that works well and reduces a substantial amount of roll or chassis flex....Spending extra would be more worth while...
reason why the dampers have a higher rebound is the springs have a higher spring rate and the damper is not tuned for the springs making it rather soft during turn-in...

I installed KingSprings 2 years ago and am extremely happy with them. No problems yet.
