View Full Version : Wheel Disaster

Hopefully this belongs here.. if not.. (Sorry Static ;) )
Anyways.. I don't know what happened but I'm trying to piece the story together.
Basically.. I was driving down the road.. and saw something, swerved and still hit it, even with swerving.. I pulled over real quick, everything appeared to be fine.. so I tried driving it real slow.. and nothing felt weird, so I went home.
The next day, I wake up to find my tire flat. So I'm thinking, "Fuk!! I blew my tire or something, got a hole in it or whatever." Well.. I'm screwed. My family is in Rockey Point, Mexico and I'm now carless. My best friend is out of the state for an engagement party, and I didn't know how to call. So I called a celica member.. and him and his friend helped me. I jacked the car up.. pulled the wheel off.. and saw no obvious damage. So, they suggest to taking it to Discount Tire to have the tire removed and then take it to Nu Wheel to see if they can save my rim. I said ok. The more I looked at it.. I noticed how my tire isn't even on my rim... so basically, I broke the bead in the tire.
Discount tire took the tire off.. and what do we find.. yeah it looks like I took a sharp object plus a hammer to the inside of my rim. (I'll have pictures later, once they get hosted on a site.)
I took the rim to Nu Wheel and they said it's a hair line fracture and since it's right on the crease of the wheel.. that there is no way they can fix it. Once they heat up the rim, the crack would get larger. They said it's more dangerous to fix then to just get a new rim. The guy also if I fixed it, it would be a liability and would probably explode at a high speed of 75-8o mph.
The worst part is.. is that, my rims are discontinued. So, now my car sits on a jack .. with 3 rims and I'm in desperate need of just 1 more rim. I have a couple people searching the nation for my rim.. so pray for me.. if not then that means I have to go buy a whole new set of rims.. which can be pretty costly.

Yeah, since those rims of yours are an old design it's going to be hard finding a replacement for that one wheel. Do you still have your stock wheels to drive on for now? Well good luck.
wow....sorry bout the tire..try ebay

Nope, sold them for $500 on E-bay. Anyways, my car is to low to ride around in stocks. I would be scrappin' like there was no tomorrow.

This is inside the rim. If you standing looking at it correctly, through the rivet swirls of the rim.. you see this like punching through the aluminun.

Working on it.... if you go W/ 19's watch the offset so it doesn't rub and look into forged rims thistime...

ya now you got a great excuse to get a set of volks or advans :D
have you called your insurance to see if they might cover it?
that's assuming your deductible isn't too high.
Depending on the type of insurance you have it might be worthwhile, my deductible is only $100.00 so I'd be callin the insurance in a heartbeat :D

I haven't even bothered to call my insurance company.. because my deductible is $1,000.00.
I'm being optimistic about this.. and praying I will find one rim out there somewhere.

do you have the crome or the silver?....and i think they are spelled "ENKEI SHURIKEN " Hope that helps guys
Korywithak

Selica 2000 ...ENKEI SHURIKEN... is that what they are called? I live in good old Pennsylvania and we always get stuff later that the west coast and even mid west. So I will put some calls in to the shops and people I know of that keep large stocks. (The small shops just call out west and have them shipped in when someone orders it) I know you said they are 18x7 but will you tell me the offset and the finish? I am assuming they are silver, and they may only make one offset I just wanted to be sure before I called around! Let me know and we will cross our fingers and pray to the wheel gods!!!

Well I did somet searching, and tried www.dogpile.com and found this webpage.. http://www.arandastires.com/main_frm.htm and I found my rims in chrome, though. So I have a call into them, and I did the price request form. I'm thinking about buying 2 rims instead of just 1, if I find them. Just in case something like this happens again, I'll have a back up rim to act as a spare for me. I'm not the type to put on my spare tire and cruise around town.. oh he!! no. I will sit parked in my house and be bored to death before I go an do something stupid like that. Anyways, keep looking for it.. the only thing that sucks is that it's a holiday weekend and we have to wait until Tuesday to get any sort of answers.
I'm keeping my finers crossed and I'm praying long and hard to these d@mn wheel gods, Korywithak!! ;)
Thanks for all your help.. and support. :)

well selika I don't know if I can find that rim but if it comes down to buying new wheels let me know I have a whole sale account I just got my new wheels for 960 out the door with nitto's they should have cost me a little over 2200.00 I bought 17 inch ice metal rims in chrome.... ed gives me a better deal then what he sells them to discount tire for so let me know you only have to get rims since your tire's are still good so I should be able to pull a pretty sweet deal

Lauren, I have calls and emails into about a dozen places here in PA. I will let you know as soon as I hear from any of them. Let us know if you find one so everyone looking can call off the search. I will continue to look until them. Hope all is well (except for you rims).

i just know if joe had 35 series tires and hit this huge bump he would of had a broken rim.
he has 40 series tires.
selika2000
05-30-2002, 12:05 PM
Um, It probably had some to do with my tire size being 35 series. . . but probably more to do with the fact I was going 60-75mph down a 45 mph road.

Alright.. I thought I had a lead from ProToolsKid but the guy failed to tell me they were chrome and not silver, after I requested silver a million times...
So, Korywithak, I was wondering how your leads were going?
I'm desperate for a rim... and I honestly don't want to get new ones, I'm so in love with the ones I have now.. :wtc: Help me!!
