I was just wondering what you guys think about swaping the gts engine for the supra twin turbo engine. How hard would this swap be to complete and is it even possiable?

I'm thinking it won't fit. Unless you spend a lot of money and even then it probably won't work.

Wont fit... also... puting in a 3SGTE if possible, would be the better engine. Hardcore Japanese Racers like Top Secret use the 3SGTE's in there Supras.

Anything's possible with enough money, but that engine's too long to do an easy swap.

ya there was only one time when the 3sgte motor was used in a supra and that was for the top secret supra. They used the 3sgte because the top secret supra is a car designed for top speed, so instead using the rather heavy inline 6 they used the rather light 4 cylinder reducing wieght significantly.

They did have a Supra with the Nissan engine in it. I'm not sure who it was. SuperStreet did an article on it. (Forgive me if Im wrong...) Putting the Supra engine in the rear of a Celica would be cool..I doubt anyone uses the whole rear...heheh.Then it would be like a mid-rear Celica thats kicks ass..haha..ok I'll shut up now...

hmmm, i remember watching the speed channel years ago, and toyota in japan had a whole set of supras with the 3sgte engine in there, of course these supra's were track driven only, but they kick butt, they kill'd the skylines when they were first introduct'd to the track. after that the skylines, won back there title... those supra's are amazing!!!

Yeah i was thinking about the 3sgte swap cause my boy is puttin one in his ol school mr2 non turbo but i dont think that that engine is as strong as the gts engine and i figured the supra engine is the strongest toyota gots. If i was gonna go that ways then i might as well keep my engine and turbo charge it......I want to get a 300zx and drob a RB motor in there frome the skyline..but o-well

haha a 3sgte not as strong as the 2zzge?? ur kidding right?? the 3SGTE is likely to be the strongest motor Toyota has ever made, prolly only losing out to the 2JZ-GTE which weighs ALOT more. Seriouslt though the 3SGTE is no joke, that engine can take a crapload of power and abuse and handle it with ease

The 3SGTE is likely the strongest motor to ever come out of toyota... There have been many successful 3SGTE's putting out in excess of 1000HP (some even running on alcohol) with many stock internal parts... Not taking anything away from the 2JZGTE, but it just seems that at least in the US, the supra gave that motor more exposure to the masses as opposed to the 3SGTE which was only used in the almost forgotten alltrac turbo celica and the turbo MR2, which was really the only car that had any aftermarket attention.

there is a japanese series that has a restriction on horsepower. many supra teams use the 3SGTE because it can reach the horsepower limit almost as easily (but still be done) and weighs much less. any ultimate high horsepower car would opt for the more potential of the xtra (approximately) 1000 cc's

you could probably put a firewall behind the front seats and convert the rear area to an engine bay. that would be more ideal than puting the 2JZ in the front

You also need to consider the exrta weight on your front end. I t is going to throw off your weight ratio in a big way.

but weight on the front end with the extra power would be a good thing for traction at the track, it would suck for handling though

I believe this was one of the reasons why Bo did not go through with his planned swap...

I'm pretty sure that was the motor displayed at SEMA this year...

And yes, Rado does have connections for Bo...:D

Mayne!! I wasnt aware of the powere of the 3sgte i just figured since it was a 4 banger like the 2zz just turbo charged that the 2zz overall was a stronger engine. But now that i think of it wasnt the rod millen celica housing a 3sgte from the all-trac and a all wheel drive set up? Did anyone hear of that celica that hit 200 mph in the 1/4? and ran like a 7.1 or somethin? I think it had some kind of toyota hybrid like v8 bottom from a tundra and v8 head from a gs400.
