just how fast are the celica gt autos??

Or should i say, how slow are the gt autos. i have a gt auto with the action package, and the other day i was racing my friend Christian in his gt manual. of course he got the jump on me, but he never gained on me after that. we went to 70mph and the whole way he was 1/2 car length in front of me. is this supposed to happen. ive raced a lot of manuals, and beat a few, but thats becuz they were all old and probably loss a few hp off from them. i dont think he new how to drive that well, but all the tests that ive seen on the gt, ive heard that you only lose .7sec 0-60 between a manual and an auto. that aint all that much faster, as for in the 1/4, well thats a whole nother story. but it really depends on the car. how fast do you think my car can do 0-60??

I have a GT Auto and would also be interested in seeing some hard facts on the speed of our cars. I know, "autos suck" is going to be posted in this thread a lot, but I think my auto is pretty damn cool for an auto.

I have a GT as well but of course its a stick! I dont think your friend knew how to drive his GT because 5spd GT's should beat auto GT's by atleast 2-3 carlenghts, at least that has been my experince.

The first Celica I test drove was a GT Auto (didn't know how to drive stick yet). It felt just as fast as my '89 Camry V6, which was in the low to mid 8's 0-60.

Are you sure about that .7???

I think its more 5spd GT's can do low 16's in the 1/4 mile while an auto does mid 17's, that more than a second and these are my numbers so they may not be completey accurate.

yeah, your right THE GAME. the gt 5speed is probably 1.5-2.0sec faster in the 1/4 mile, but not from 0-60.

2-3 car length, hmmm come on now, that cant be. I would say 1 car length. I have a auto GT, and i've never raced a 5spd GT so im not sure. I have raced my friends 5spd sentra (not ser) many times. his is stock, and mine has a exhaust. He always get a good lead on the start, and thats about it. The lead in the start is what he wins by. And now sentra is a 145hp car with a very nice torque, compared to an celica with 140. But the sentra is much heavier. I think that the torque makes up for the weight. So a sentra is probably about the same as a celica. Well guyz, from my experience thats about all i can say about this topic.

I may not be proud of the speed of an auto GT, but one thing for sure, Im proud to be a owner of a celica.

0-60's in autos are never horrible because it is an error proof launch. You basicially roll on the gas and keep it matted all the way to 60, dont have to worry about wheelspin and trying to feather te clutch & gas....just punch it... dont have to worry about shifting either. Just my .02

Auto GT-S and auto GT are virtually the same, GT-S maybe faster but not by much.

i took my gt auto to the dealership, and was talking to them about a trade (of course i dont have no stock stuff) and they looked and admired it and ask all kinds of ?'s. but they said i would hafta get rid of everything and return it to stock as much as possible. and then they'd only give me 1/2 what its worth.

my girlfriend has a stock 2000 GT auto
i have a stock 2001 GT stick

i can NOTICE a BIG difference in quickness between the 2, even my girlfriend notices a difference

for those auto owners, go DRIVE a gt stick and see if you can tell a difference

hell, my brother's tacoma, stick, seems faster than a gt auto

but theotherredline is right, if you like you car and think its fast with the action package, then good for you!
