I have a 2001 Gt celica and I just put in the hass/turbokits.com kit. I'm breaking in the engine as of right now because I also upgraded the pistons and rods. For just a base tune it is really quick! I have driven it for about 50 miles and I have a couple questions. At idle the wideband gauge sometimes reads "rich". Is this bad enough to take it back to the shop as soon as possible? Also I have noticed the car is running hot. I know I have an intercooler right infront of the radiator so it will block some flow. I'm just wondering if any of you guys had a problem of overheating. Any answers would be great thanks.

"rich" as in what number? good or bad depends on the number.

the gauge reads 10 and then goes to the word rich.

yeah, 10 is rich.... especially for idle. 14.7 is the best for economy, but you should be running around 14, even high 13's at idle... nothing more than that. 10 is too rich and might kill your 02 sensors and your CAT. At best, it should drop down to 12 during full throttle for the best power ratio.

look on the bright side... it's not lean! =D

IF the car in idle doesn't overheat, and then when u drive it a little it does, it's that u have air in the system! I had the same problem I flush it(maybe u don't have to)maybe goes away by adding the water with car turn on. I had that problem because i added coolant with the engine off.

yup same here had an airpocket but the shop was quick to figure it out.

Worry about the heat first, than the idle..
Seems like air in your system indeed

yup - celica is hard to bleed - read my coolant bleeding FAQ in the repair section

I've been looking at that kit for a long time for my 2000 gt. Hows it working out for you? I guess a shop installed the kit for you? You like it?

yeah it makes crazy power from what I can tell. I'm still breaking in the engine. They said the wastegate is set at 15psi. With the built internals and the kit they said with the final tune I might see 300 hp. I upgraded to the 630cc injectors, that might be a little over kill, but we will see.

Whats the mileage on the car? Mine is around 92,000. Wondering if internals might be a good idea too.

Thats great...You or your shop didn't run into all of the problems that I've seen recently with the Hass/turbokits.com install?

yeah they did. The car was in the shop for a month and a half.

that's not that bad.

my roommate's car has been in georgia since christmas getting a kit put on.... granted he's dropping 30k into the engine alone... so it's taking a while with the machine shop and everything.

i hate rich people =P

after just 100 miles on the kit the car is back in the shop because the car will not go into gear.

yeah its good to know it is not the turbo kit. The kit pulls so good, and its just on a base tune!! The hass situation was a draw back, but having turbokits.com pick up the slack was perfect. Turbokits.com has done everything plus more in their power to fix the situation. Thanks a lot Jesse! I'm looking forward on having it tuned and the clutch fixed so I can give all you guys a look.

My transmission had the wrong oil in it. The shop put red line mt 90 in it. The car would not go into gear at all. The shop then put Royal Purple in it and it runs perfectly.
It was something to do with the additives that were in the mt 90. The royal purple has what I need for the C65 trans and the kaaz LSD im running. The car is a blast to drive and I cant wait to get back to the shop for the final tune and numbers.

Kaaz LSD should use their own gearing oil, or tranny oil with a special additive.
Something about synthetic would coat the discs and it is not as effective or something like that...

I'm using MT90 in my trans with a Cusco LSD and I don't like it at all. The diff is WAY too grabby with that oil in there. I've been meaning to dump it and try different fluid in there. I've been told that the Ford LSD additive works very well with clutch-type LSD's.

Since when the Redline Mt90 is considered the wrong oil for the celica Tranny?!?!

it's not the wrong oil for the celica tranny, it's the wrong oil for the lsd's that they put into their tranny.

Clutch/plate type LSD's frequently require a specific friction modifier to engage properly per mfg specification. The wrong gearoil or missing additive can make it seem as if something's broken.

How's the car so far now?
