hey i went to a shop and the guy quoted me $4000 for preping and installing an ebay fiberglass body kit, paint and installing a trd wing, paint and install new fenders. he said that he had to make sure all of the air bubles or pockets were taken out, otherwise when painted they would buble up and chip the paint. he also told me that he would mold the kit on and fix all the dings and dents on my car. he also said that he would even do a color change for me, he would paint all visible places to any color that i want. he also has to fix my engine bay on both sides in the insides of the fenders due to and accident. oh also he would get me new head lights.
I'm sorry for the long post but can you guys please give me your opinions?
thanks

Understand the quality of their work. If you have faith in them based on what you know now or discover and you have the funds available in the bank, it may be worth it. As far as 'visible places' for painting, does this include the engine bay? I've seen paint jobs where the door jambs were left the original color. Not good.
What type of kit are you installing? If you are willing to spend this amount of money on paint, kit install, repairs, etc., I hope you invested in a quality kit. I'm not a fan of fiberglass but this is your choice.

That's all you need to know. The shop is expecting major headaches. Most likely they're trying to scare you off with the price.
But basically, $4000 is a fair price for all the work you mentioned.

If you're going to shell out $4k for paint & install, why not start out with a kit that's worth putting on?

He does real good work . He has a rep for painting realy good. He is the go to guy when it comes to painting show cars, he is also converting my brother's 96' burb to a 04' escalade front end. They are not done w/ my bros burb yet but it is looking realy good. Where would it be good to find a nice non fiberglass body kit? i cannot find any good prices.

I've been told by shop owners that they will purposely give high estimates to kids who come in asking for estimates on paint and install of eBay bodykits. He said between the owners and the horrendous quality of the parts, it is completely not worth dealing with.

if i were you i would just buy a good authentic kit like kam, veilside or whatever. the fitment will be a lot easier, also require less body work just to be fitted correctly.
seems like a good price to me. for all the labor, consumables and parts. long as the quality is good.
BTW you mentioned ebay kit. whats it supposed to be a replica of?

Yeah, which kit is it?
I'd actually recommend heading to the forum member Jintei. His kits fit extremely well from the start, made of FRP (stronger than fiberglass but weighs about the same), and costs up to around $600 (more or less) shipped. There's about 5 different types of body kits and you can also mismatch if you'd like.

Hey Hey hold your horses, I got an eBay kit, and it looks amazing.. just cuz it's off eBay doesn't mean it's homemade.. wtf.. real big companies sell on eBay too, you just gotta look for em and their reputation.. :fawk:

the kit that i purchased is called the vader or someting like that. I decided to paint my car white with some pearl, not too much pearl but enough to tell that it has pearl in it.

For the perfect body kit install (blending, no gaps, etc etc)? No 4 g's sounds about right. Make sure you'll like this kit in the near future because switching will be a PITA

If he had bought an authentic bodykit and the sale happened to go through eBay, he wouldn't have called it an "eBay bodykit". I bought all my car stereo equipment on eBay but I don't say I have an eBay car stereo.

^^ :werd:
They're are some nice things that sell on eBay, but by far most of the products they sell for our cars are home-business sorts. It's been proven time and time again just how horrible most "eBay" body kits are. That said, you can indeed buy authentic body kits off of eBay but as Jesse just said, you wouldn't call them eBay kits.

Right. I'm planning to buy all my car audio off of eBay and maybe some other things.
Vader kit is... Veilside isn't it?

Okay I agree with your guys point...bc my kit def was not just another "eBay kit" but I got it off eBay, so I was just making sure bc ppl keep dissin on eBay, but there are LOOts of good items on it, and most of us buy majority of our upgrades from them, but you just gotta look for the authentic companies... so you guys are right..
