Engine Changes Throughout '00-'05

Hi I'm new here. I was wondering how the 2zz engine in the GT-S changed throughout the years from '00-'05. I know that the governor was reduced to 7800 from 8250 in '02, but did it go back up to 8250 in '03? Also did the redline get changed throughout the years? I'm just doing some research so I know exactly what to buy when I get my license, if the '03-'05 has the higher rev limit then I'll definitely get that over the '00-'01.

Here is a little bit of what I know:

'00-01: 8400 rev limit or around that limit
'02: Lower rev limit

'00-'02: 2zz is run by cable throttle
'03+: 2zz is Drive by wire (no bueno)

'00-02: 1st gen lift bolts in the engine which tended to brake very soon
'03+ All 2zz engines had 2nd gen lift bolts

That's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

03+ has different exhaust valves, 05 has the 7800 limiter again. Some 00 have 6000 lift, all others have 6200.

i believe that it has been determined that the 00 and 01 model years are the "best" one's to get...followed by the 02...then the 03-05.

Ok so from the looks of it, it sounds like '00 is the best to get since it has 6k lift and higher limiter. So does '03-'04 have 6200 lift and 8250 limiter? If so, I'd probably get an '03-'04 because (this is a pretty stupid reason) it has the TRD Action package option and I wouldn't really need to buy a body kit or anything. What are some more pros/cons on '03-'04?

I think only the late 99 model 2ZZ's had the 6K crossover -- 00+ were set at 6.2K. Rev limit can be changed with an emanage ultimate or PFC, so don't worry about that.

Yeah, I honestly think that the '00-'02 tail lights were just thrown on at the last second. The design just seems so..... basic. The '03-'05 tails work with the car a lot better IMO.

Yeah I really like the design of the '03+ headlights a lot more than the previous models. So I'm guessing that I'm gonna get the '03 or '04 because everything sounds perfect. Thanks a million everybody.

Wow, I didn't know the headlights were different. Haha. I want some color coded ones off the Tsunami edition anyway, haha, or USDM HIDs :thumbup:

Ok thanks, also all model year gts have a 7800 redline right? Just the '02 and '05 have the limiter set at 7800, all other MY allow you to go into redline?

How are they different? Are they interchangeable between modal year? Like the ECU.I think 03+ are bigger. They're pretty cheap from the stealership if you want to compare.
