Improper display of registration?

got a ticket for Improper display of registration sticker :bang:

I just got my new registration in the mail on saturday and did'nt have the time/patience to peel off the old one. So I just placed it on the dash right above the gauge. Everything on the sticker is clearly visible.


(j) (3) Vehicles must display valid registration sticker. No person shall stand or
park a vehicle bearing a New York plate or plates unless it properly displays a
current registration sticker


WTF does properly displayed mean? Everything is clearly shown. There's no mention that it had to be stuck on the window itself....

Technically the cop was right in giving you a ticket.
However you are clearly being hassled.

I once got stopped at a NYSP road block for the same reason and had the new registration on the dash.
The Trooper wanted me to install the new registration on the spot.
However, I countered that it was best left until I got home so I could remove the old one and install the new one in the proper position.
This is the first and only time I actually won an "arguement" with a trooper and he let me go! :)

I can say even more - in NY registration and inspection stickers should be placed at driver's side lower corner and first should be inspection and then registration. If you mix them - you will get ticket.

I got banged for the same thing a few months ago. Had my car parked in the train station parking lot with my new reg on the dash, and I guess they walk around the lot on the 1st of the month writing tickets for stupid stuff like that.

thats messed up. they have a law saying you have to have it regesterd. while having it parked off the road. at least you wernt driving it when you got caught. im glad we dont have that ugly sticker in the windshield. plus they said mail? wtf? so you have to order a new registration 5 months ahead? what happens you dont have a driveway in nyc and have to park in the street. thats messed up.
