This subject was brought up on the RX-7 Forum and most of the members that replied said they paid around $6,000. My friend ended up getting the Lamborghini blue and it cost him $10,000. I'm sure you can get a much cheaper deal than these people. I'm pretty sure they raised the price just because it's an RX-7 TT.

In houston, a factory paint will cost anywhere from 1500-3000 a show finish will cost u about 4000-5000, then of course if u do certain custom paints, it'll cost more...

OK,
ANybody who plans on spending $6,000+ for paint on a $23k car should have just saved the $6000 and upgraded to a better car. I can't see throwing that much into a paint job. Now, $6000 for a complete overall upgrade (kit, wheels, intake, exhaust, clutch, NOS maybe, etc.) would be way better. Just my $.02

Well this situation with the paint and our Celicas is comparable to let's say anyone of our girlfriends/wives. She's got a nice chest, but she wants to get a boob job. Your in love with her so you say sure get the boob job. You are putting money into what is already a great set of wheels ;) (keeping the discussion clean), but what the heck, you tell her to go for it.
Its the same with our Celicas. We love our Celicas. An expensive upgrade like a high-quality paint job to a person that doesn't own the particular car (Celica or not) may seem very unnecessary. Its the love that makes us do the things we do. Cars and women...two ideals men will go the distance for (until the sale or divorce date of course).

Dude,
Interesting analogy. Kinda got me thinking. Don't get me wrong, an obsession is an obsession, and I'm not saying that feeding that is necessarily bad, but where do you draw the line between obsession and foolish? Just my opinion, If I had $6000 and was repainting my car, I would rather spend $3500MAX on the paint and mod the interior to some crazy pattern, etc. Just think, one little fender bender and $6000 of your $$ is down the drain, no insurance will cover that without paying through the A$$!

I got House of Kolours Kandy Baby Blue on my celi. They did under my hood, hatch and door jams, along with my sunroof jam and it cost me $4700. Just an FYI

I'm going to say a good color change should be in the neighborhood of 5 grand (depending on paint or graphics) this is not horrible expensive when my car was red someone egged it twice in one week the second time the egg had dried on the car and we all know what that does to paint so I went to gruelichs auto body to get a repair estimate for my insurance company it was 3800.00$ and this was just to repaint the exterior so paying another 1200 to get your door's, hatch , hood, fender's removed painted on the undersides and get you door jambs and engine compartment sprayed this is not a bad deal. I don't think there is a fine line every one can justify there own actions and as long as they have no problem working over time every week and putting every last cent into there car then let them go for it I did.... I happy with my car it's done and the year of sacrafice to get it were it is today is over I can finally afford to go out and enjoy cruising my Celica

I'd never spend that much money on paint unless it was my 2nd or 3rd car and only used for show...and that's if I had that type of money to spend. It sends practicality down the drain, especially for a daily driver. Nonetheless, sometimes guys let the stick (shift that is) think before the brain ;) .

About the price of a good paint job running 6K...it's something some people would do and others wouldn't. Some people like a great paint job, and some don't mind a paint job that is average. To each his own.

You said that anyone who spends $6000 for a paint job should have just saved up for a better car, but then you said that spending a total of $6000 on other things is OK. Thats kind of contradicting.
I agree, expensive paint jobs arn't for every one. But if you are willing to front the cash for a super expensive paint job, beleive me, it will make your Celica soo much better than any other you come across. If you line up a bunch of Celicas, and they all are totally tricked out, lowered, kits, wheels, ect., and then you have one that sitting there that is bone stock except it has a House of Kolors paint job on it, beleive me, all the other Celicas will suddenly become invisible to onlookers. Trust me, pictures of super expensive House of Kolor painted Celica's like mine and Cash Money's don't even compare to what they look like in real life, the effect is very powerful. A super expensive paint job will make a car look super expensive. Then, if you add wheels, kits, ect. on top of that, your car will just get better and better.
It's all a matter of opinion, to some people the cost will never be justified. To me it is. If it isn't for you, I can understand completely :)
Also, I don't know how everyone elses insurance works, but my insurance company will pay for all the labor and the cost of the paint just as if it were to be painted with the original color. Basically, I would get an estimate to fix whatever is damaged and paint it in Liquid silver. Then I would pay the additional balance of my super expensive paint. That arrangement is not too bad IMHO. If my front end gets wrecked, it would probably only cost around $500 for me to redo it in Kameleon.

I guess my main point is that you can always get some value back out of a s/load of mods by selling off the hardware. It's kinda hard to sell paint. I agree that my statement in kinda contradicting and I agree that a non stock color car will stand out more than stock. I (personally) would have used the $$ for something else, just a preference. I'm not really calling anybody a complete idiot for doing this. Insurance agencies are trick like that, the less they know about your car, the better it is. Unfortunately, most claims require a photograph of some kind.

full color change with a show car paint job, nice gloss and high quality would be 5k+...

it is definetly important to have friends who own a quality body shop I don't rally think anyone would believe me if I said how much exactly I have itno my car but trust me it is not even close to what I should have spent if I dropped it off at a shop that didn't give me a hook up..
I agree with you chameleon pictures don't do justice for house of color's paints but they look amazing when there right there in front of you. I don't think I will ever be able to keep a factory paint ever again. I personally would rather spend the money making my car look good then spend half of the money on performance parts to me looking good is more important than going fast. and in my opinion it is obsured to spend so much on go fast stuff but then again this is why some of go for looks and other go for speed. either way we go we all started with the best looking car on the market

how about the best of both worlds... speed and looks? I did as much performance as available at the time and had nothing else to do... so I went with the looks stuff... now that more performance stuff is coming out, i'll be saving up for some FI and the Hotchkis TVS...
Chameleon is absolutely right bout the paint... my car stands out cause of it just like his does too along with Juicedcelica's. Park any other Celi with similar mods and stock paint and next to mine and watch as people forget about the other car and check out mine... or in chameleons and juiced's case their's...
Whats the first thing you notice on a car??? Paint and styling... not the goodies under the hood or pipes under the car... It attracts all kinds of attention from all kinds of car/truck lovers... old gearheads and hoofty wheelers always say that they don't like the other imports around my area but they like mine... and thats by my guess cause of the Kandy Apple Red paintjob...
Would you get rid of your girl that you love so much thats middle class just to get with a girl in the upperclass that you don't really care for??? ...Not me... cause i wouldn't be happy...
and it's agreed... you gotta see these paints in person... pictures do absolutely no justice to this paint... Hey rappers don't rap about Kandy paint for no reason... :D

DaRk StAr...come to the...uh, dark side...hehehe... Seriously...you want a pretty gun metal... go to a shop that works with House of Kolors paint... and check out the Ultra Metallic Galaxy Grey... and that lil color swatch does no justice trust me, chameleon, and juiced on this... it costs a lil' more than other metallic's but it's very justifiable and durable as others...

actually, he said...it would be better to get a better car, but looking at a modding point of view...it would be MUCH better to spend it on those mods....
