I just got done reading this article in this months SCC on the turbo matrix. I really suggest you guys read this article as it answers alot of questions and shows exactly how they turbo'd the car.
I find it interesting that they used the stock ECU to maintain the timing but used the TEC II for the fuel and ignition control. I suppose with the new TEC III system they may be able to replace the entire ecu as the new system controls the lift mechanism of VTEC and should for VVTLi supposedly from what i was reading elsewhere in SCC.

Everyone who hopes to turbocharge the 2zz should DEFINITELY read that Project Matrix article in SCC. It's an eye-opening account of how complex and costly turbocharging our car WITHOUT lowering compression ratio can be. And to think, after all the intensive, expensive, and complex tuning they did, they still ended up breaking a piston (this happened after that article was written). That article is a MUST-READ.

yea, i thought that was a really good article. it still seems like a hell of a lot of work though, and i think it will still end up being too expensive and not as reliable as i'd want. i'd love to see someone on here try it and have it work, but unfortunately my car has decided it hates me and everything on it is falling apart, but i think my next project will be cool :).

Damn... thirteen pages... I'm not posting the images here. I put the article in a zip file and uploaded it. Check it out http://www.tones321.com/turbomatrix.zip

here's a quick summary of my bad luck with the celi (of course some of the things are really small but it still just makes me a little mad)-
had to get new belt tensioner pulley, needed new cd player, new transmission, seat fabric is tearing badly, needs new MAFS and possibly injectors, bogs horribly and nearly stalls almost everytime i take off (which will hopefully be fixed with new injectors/mafs), tons of interior rattles and broken pieces, broken pieces around the door area, loose door hinge, and a few other things. then there's just my other bad luck with the car that's not toyota's fault or anything, but includes numerous dents/scratches that have appeared mysteriously, a recent rock crack in the front winshield, having my front bumper almost come unattached one day, one side skirt not fitting right and the drivers door sometimes won't close right, and lots of other crap that i won't go into.
oh, and my next project is a wrx which as long as things go well, will be fairly quick :).

They went to all that trouble, yet never lowered the compression. Maybee something good will come out off it, now that they broke the piston.:burnout:
I havent heard of any low compression turbo'ed 2ZZ-GE, maybee the EIP celica that puts out ~300hp not sure though if its lowered compression.

because even all the work they did, doesnt come close to ripping the engine apart to put in new internals.. that ssome mega bucks

Why would you go from a good looking car like the celi to a fugly 4 door wrx?
stay 2 door get a new tiburon.....:gap:

haha...hell no. the tiburon looks worse to me, and it's slower and possibly even less reliable than the celica. i'm already used to the "wrx is ugly" stuff, but after driving and riding in a modded one, i could care less :). plus, after the morette headlight conversion, kit, and rims, i think they look awesome. check this one out: http://www.supercars.net/garages/imprezawrx14/50v2.html
(here's a small pic for those that don't wanna check out the whole thing)

Is it just me, but that turbo setup looked like a hack. Weld this part, use two ECU's....I wasn't impressed by the setup. All this article proved was that we need a stand-alone engine management system badly.

well at that point in time they used the TEC II.. the TEC III standalone should control everything

haha...no, i dont realy like fat girls. but the wrx has really grown on me after i've been around them and found out how much potential they have. and maybe i just have bad taste but i dont think the tiburon looks that great.
