I just turned on GT3 and went to the car buying section. Went to look at the little caption on the bottom(the little info. stuff that scrolls by) on the Celica and it mention 1zzge as the base engine for the Celica, and 2zzge as the top of the line engine. Then went to go read the MR-S and it said 1zzfe. Jus wonderin if GT3 made a mistake, or if Japan has 1zz-ge celicas runnin around.

GT3 is right. Celica GT's, MR2 spyders, Corolla's, and Matrix XR's comes with the 1ZZ-GE engine. While the Celica GTS and Matrix XRS comes with the 2ZZ-GE.

Nope. All those cars you mentionned as having 1ZZ-GE actually have 1ZZ-FE - in North America at least. In Toyota talk, GE means high performance engine, FE means economy engine. The 1ZZ-FE's designation as economy can be traced back to its Corolla origins.
As for the original question, I have no idea if there is such a thing as a 1ZZ-GE. My guess would be that GT3 is wrong.

the FE and GE usually refer to the head. the 1ZZ/2ZZ refer to the engine family.
the 2ZZ is a different engine altogether than the 1ZZ. it was based off the 1ZZ's design but the block has that MMC composite material and a different bore/stroke, and those different oil cooling systems.
the 2ZZ only comes with a GE (performance) head (a.k.a VVTL-i head). the 1ZZ has just a FE (fuel economy) head.
it'd be cool if a company could develop a new head for the 1ZZ and sell those...more agressive valvetrain/cams that work perfectly with the 1ZZ block.

We should send a mail to the makers of GT3 and tell them they made a mistake by putting 1zz-ge.

The first part of the code refers to the engine family. The ZZ means both engines belong to the same family, the number in front (1ZZ, 2ZZ) refers to the generation within that block family, hence, the 1ZZ came out before the 2ZZ. The second part of the code, tells you about the head and the type of induction. The F means it is a narrow angle twin cam motor (about 22.5 degrees, tuned for fuel economy and low end torque), the G designation means wide angle DOHC (about 43 - 45 degrees) tuned for high revving, high performance applications. Then the E just means EFI, and it can also be preceeded by another code, usually Z, for supercharged motors or T, for turbo engines.
As far as a 1ZZGE, I am unaware of it, so I am inclined to believe that it must be a typo, unless of course, someone is swapping GTS heads onto GT blocks already! lol...

i really don't think the makers would care too much if we emailed them. There are typos all the time. How about the red line is at 7500 or some $hit.

A plain E refers to a SOHC design.
Quick example, the 3.0L V6 for the Toyota Truck & 4Runner, 3VZ-E
The 3.0L V6 for the 1992-1993 Camry & ES300 had a DOHC 3VZ-FE.
It can also be preceded by an "S" for direct injection

maybe we should tell them that the celica in that game runs low 16s in the 400m

One of the first SAE articles that came out about the ZZ family engines said the Celica came with a 1ZZ-FE or a 2ZZ-FE. It said that numerous times in the article. Mistakes are made...
