I have had nothing but bad luck with the celica. I loved the celica but it's time to move on. I needed something bigger(im 6'4") more room for friends.(road trips) I loved the 2zzge and the 6spd

so i ended up getting a indigo blue XRS matrix 6 spd.

I know some people hate this car or whatever but it's a great looking car in person. handles awsome and it's pretty powerfull :)
shifting is alot smoother then the celica. And yes it does have a 8300 rpm cut-off ;)

i'm loving this car, i already changed out the stereo and added a sub. tints are getting done this week and my exhaust is going on next week. I'm just waiting for injen to ship out the CAI's.

here are the pics, please be kind. these were taken the next morning after i got her.

If I could do it with no financial penalties, I would trade my celica in for a matrix too

How comfortable is the seating position in that thing? I have heard that the wheel/ Pedal positions are not well balanced. One being too close and one being too far.

i've sat in it and seen it in person and noticed a few things

1) VERY ROOMY...only 200lbs heavier than a GTS Auto (its like 2700something) and it has roomy backseats and 2 extra doors?!

2) it looks incredibly nice. especially that indigo color nd4spd got...it shines and catches your eye from down the street. looks eyecatching enough to get looks like the celica. the rear hatch windshield opens up and the antenna is on the roof and all that stuff.

3) a lot of cool utilitarian features. cupholders in the back, passenger seat folds down into a table, etc.

4) THE SOUND. the exhaust sounds like a more conservative aftermarket exhaust. it's like a TRD without the overly deep sound. (you know how the TRD drowns out the engine underneath 2500-3000rpm? this doesn't. you can hear exhaust and engine at the same time).

5) cool shift knob ;) some of you 6-speed GTS guys should get it :D

not my choice.. but congrats on your purchase :)

Um.. congrats? Just out of curiosity why did you bail on the celi to owe more on something else which is very similar? If its for more room/utility/people hauling I guess I can understand. Our backseats are pretty worthless, especially if the driver (me) is 6'4.

i have had nothing but bad luck with the celica. alot of problems (blown motor, broken trany x2) i wanted to get rid of it while i can.

i like it cause of what you said, room/utility/ and people hauling.

Exhaust is going on next week or so, tints are getting done this week(20%), Intake waiting on injen to ship them, springs might not be doing them for awhile, and rims are going to be about a year :)

thanks for nice responses

4 or 5 lug? (i cant tell by the pics) sorry if this is a dumb question. it may look phat slammed onto gts wheels :) hehehehe

They are 4 lug. I believe it is the corolla wagon overseas. In the US they call it the Matrix. ;)

I'm not fond of the 5 door wagon/minivan cars (Protege 5, Matrix, Vibe, several others), but if it makes you happy then congrats. :D I know just about every auto maker has one now. Must be the demand of the younger generation. :D

I just ordered some RH Evo Z500 18 x 7.5 rims for my Celica.. if I traded my Celi in for a Matrix will they fit that perfectly?

BTW congrats dood!!

lol good choice.... ur probably faster than the 2002 gt-s, if memory serves me correctly......

let us know who how ur aftermarkets coming along yea? there was a lotta talk in mags about booming aftermarket, but the matrix is still really new....

CONGRATS man!!

I like the Matrix, but I don't think I could ever drive one since it is a 4 door (I can't stand 4 doors). Anyways, it's a great car, and fast too. Looks like the aftermarket for it will be strong as well.

I like the front of em but hate the back... the Matrix looks really cool in the cartoon type commercial but in real life they are kinda ugly. Just my opinion

very nice Ryan.. I think it looks sweet as hell. I just wish Toyota would market the GTS in a price range closer to the Matrix under 20k then I could pick up a used one :)

It sucks, feels like a truck. Nothing compared to the Celica.

congrats, my co-worker just picked one up over the weekend, same color XRS I believe.

I had to give her a hard time because she stalled out at the traffic light going into work this morning.

She loves it, and her husband really loves it.

but thanks DOH! Sorry about that. I guess you'd know better, huh? ;) Looked like 4 in the pic, plus I thought the Corollas were all 4 lug. Was I at least right about that? Isn't that the car that is the Corolla wagon outside the US?

Gothca. They've got a lot of really different cars over there. They don't deserve a nice looking car like the Matrix. :D

t2000gts
05-28-2002, 06:04 PM
it's the corolla fielder in japan...or the corolla t-sport is a hatchback too and is the same platform i think...2ZZ-GE hatchback corolla.

on the sticker for the matrix it says 'corolla matrix'

but the actual car as we see it, with all the utility features and that body style is not available in Japan...it might be, they usually offer up even their american variants over there as options. the Pontiac Vibe is gonna be the Toyota Voltz or something over there...i don't expect it to sell that well, just for people who dig that pontiac look :D

i dunno what the lugs are on the corolla wagon/hatches over there, but they did use a lot of celica stuff on the matrix.

hey, check out the latest SCC they have an atricle about turboing the matrix, i think it was part 2 of their project matrix. I just got a shot to check out the cover today while i was at barnes and nobles.

Sweet. I want my wife to trader her Accord in for one. I sat in one when it first came out and loved it. It was an XR-s, loaded with 17's and a bazooka in the back. It was 19k if I remember correctly. Very nice man.

Corrola is not an wagon in Europe or Japan, wtf? But, Matrix is based on Corolla anyway, except for the body... and Corrola TS in Europe does have the same engine (a bit faster), but I would think it handles better than Matrix, just because of its body (Matrix is quite bit taller)... nevertheless, nice ride!

Nice ride, I love those things. Here's what I would do if it were mine:

1. Progress coilover suspension. This is what SCC has on theirs that lowers the thing 2.5 inches

2. 18" wheels with 225/40-18 tires.

3. Tint the windows

4. Get some PIAA Ion Crystal bulbs for the fogs and an HID conversion for the headlights

IMO it doesn't even need a bodykit.

The seat is high off the floor, and the steering wheel felt like it was at a 45
