I wanted a quieter ride and better overall sound quality from my system so I decided to spend a couple days soundproofing my car. It's still a work in progress, but most of it's done.

Car mostly gutted.

Damn! That's one thorough job! I'd expect the cabin to be dead quiet after that!

that looks a lot like my girls celica when i put in dynamat. i did 4 of the bulk kits that are 32 square feet per kit, double layered the same spots you did. you may want to cut out the big hole on the door, if it stays covered it may give you a hard time closing the door at least it did on my girls celi until i cut it out, dont know if it wasnt letting air out so it didnt seal right or something but it jsut closed funny

but looking good, you will be glad you went through all that trouble when you get your sounds back in and they sound twice as good

Thanks!

Also, just want to say if anyone else is interested in getting eDead, use the code eDeadBA at checkout to get 20% off your entire purchase! ;) It's great stuff. Easy to apply, stretches nicely, and doesn't stink like asphalt based sheets. Very affordable butyl-based sound deadener at a dollar per sq foot.

And for sound blocking/absorbing foam, search eBay for cheap "volara" or "neoprene".

That reminds me of my deadening venture :) If you are doing it for the sound, you definately want to seal up all the holes like he has it. It creates a better sealed enclosure for your midbass drivers. It also helps to separate the drivers front and rear sound waves. Dynamat costs way too much for what it is. It is a good product though. How many sq ft did you have to buy of the edead? It looks like it is pretty thin stuff, so good thing you put a few layers in most places. Here are my pics.

Around 180 sq ft with a little left over.

Nice install you did too. Those PRS speakers you have must sound sweet! When I get the money, I want to upgrade from my Rainbow Dream Lines, but for now I'm happy with them.

Is that Ensolite, neoprene or what, that you put over your mat? I plan to do that also.

Yep, it's Ensolite. I used all RAAMaudio products. :) I used 1 roll of mat and like 3 yards of Ensolite.

My brother's exhaust is loud as **** and his head unit just died. Normally, the subs overpower the exhaust and it's fine, but I can't stand it by itself!

Looks good though. I'm probably go the FatMat route... $100 for 100 sq. ft.

how involved is it to completely strip out the interior like that? does it ruin the interior in any way? i'd like to deaden my car, but i don't want to dammage anything by pulling it all out.

also, can this be done in 2 days?

Oh yeah, you can do it in a day if you're not lazy.

It's not THAT difficult. You don't really need to remove the dash, but you need to remove the center console (i.e. where armrest is) to remove the carpet. And take off the plastics. I'd do it slowly though so it's not rushed. So, I don't recommend doing it in a day.

Start with the doors. Then move to the trunk. Then the inside.

thanks. i had definitely planned on doing the doors and trunk, but i wasnt really sure whether or not to go all out and do the entire floor.

do you guys bother with the hatch/ceiling? what about the exterior of the wheel wells. i've heard of some spray deadeners made especially for spraying the exterior side of your wheel wells to help with road noise, but i never see anyone mention doing it in all the various deadening articles/threads i've read.

oh, and what about paint-on deadeners? any advantage/disadvantage to it?

Wow, nice work dude! I am only running a 8" kicker L5, and am probably going to do a litle bit of dyanamat xtreme(those 10"x10" kits) around the 6.5"s in the front and rear. Maybe some in the trunk too. I Like the idea of doing something like that elastomer coated foam behind the speakers on the outside sheet metal. I'm not really worried about rattles or road/exhaust noise, i'd just like to see the difference(and hopefuly some even better SQ)some dynamat etc. here and there makes. I think it should help. What do you think, and other suggestions? ps. I'm running alpine spr-17s in front and and spr-17c in the rear(both amped) thank

Any suggestions on doing this? Ill be tearing my car down and deadening it this summer (probably going to be using Dynamat, because its all I can get locally).

Hows normal driving with sound deadening material? Can you really tell the differance? I've allways been afraid to spend the time and money doing this and weighing down my car another 80-100 pounds. I might have to do this. I bet I can get a good price on raam mat becuase I know the owner of the company.

A roll of RAAMmat is only 25 pounds, so it ain't that bad.

Really you know Rick! That is pretty awesome and he is a cool guy. He really knows how to run a business. You can get discounts on it if you are a member of some audio forums like I am on. You can definitely tell a huge difference if you do it right. Ever notice how when people shut the Celica's doors, it always seems like they are being slammed. Now mine shut quiet as hell and don't rattle a bit. The door handles do now, but that is because of my midbass! :D

Yeah Ricks a cool guy he used to own a turbo matrix before he switched over to his Tc. I live close to his house, and have been meaning to give him a call and see if I can bring my car out to his house.

oh this brings back old memories of the first changes I made to my car. Playing rattle doctor is not always a fun game but this should cut down the majority of the interior cabin noises your hearing.
