fit in the celica?
i understand that we have 4 x 6 1/2 inch speaker (2 in the back and 2 in the front) + 2 tweeters.
my question is: can i install 4 x 6*9 speaker (2 back, 2 front) do they fit in there or do i really need to stick with the 6 1/2 speakers?
and does anyone know what max. sizes i can put in there WITHOUT changing anything to the doors?
i am planning on buying 4 x 6*9 speaker (80mm depth). will these fit in the front and the back?
sorry for repeating myself
thanks

hell no they wont fit! First of all, the stock speakers are not regular speakers, doesnt look like any sort of aftermarket 6.5" speakers. They are molded into this plastic container thing. Basically, the speaker doesnt sit in the whole, its sort of raised out. Also, the whole is a little too big. I had a hell of a time trying to make my new 6.5s fit, could only get 3 screws in good, and 4 just barely. Get me? Also, you have to watch out for clearance in the front doors. If you get a 6.5" speaker with a big, or regular size magnet, you might roll down your window on your speakers and really f*ck things up. You can fit as big of a speaker in back, cus there is hella clearance, but if you want 6x9s you need to do some cutting, cut the metal where the speaker goes. I dont know what everyone else has in their front doors, but I got the pioneer TS-1661, depth is only 1.75", so it fits, and still sound hella clear and crisp, little bit of bass. You could try to mess around with spacers and stuff and get deeper speakers, but its not worth the hassel. This should help you. Good luck!

damn.... i really loved the idea to fit in some really kickass 6x9's ...
i don't want subs and bassrolls, i just wanted to install a better soundsystem into my car. seems that is too much of hassle. and since i ain't that good of a car-mechanic and ain't that good at all with any kind of cutting/car work it seems i shouldn't try this by myself ...
i'll ask my toyota-dealer what he could do for me ...

Is tricky, but doable, but if you are not audio or tool inclined, then dont, because you gotta basically strip the interior of the car just to get to the speakers and then, you gotta drill out the rear riveted speakers......

Did you post this in Audio? Maybe I missed it.
It would be easier to fit a 6x9 in the rear than in the front.
Here is a pic of the rear with the stock speaker removed (drilled out rivets)

I didn't measure, but would estimate the hole diameter to be 8".
Rear speaker:

See the large black plastic bezel around the cone.
Door with stock speaker:

Again you would have to drill out the rivets. I did not so I'm unsure of the hole diameter in the sheet metal.
You can fit 6.5" in all the locations with minimal work. (assuming you don't mind drilling out rivets) You will need some sort of mounting brackets or cut up the existing to make the new ones work.

thanks guys, this helped me alot. but anyway i found some really good 3-way 6.5" speakers and i'll probably install those with some high-end tweeters in the front.
i am just curious, but i pumped up the volume pretty high with the stock speakers and i can really see that my backhatch-, my door-, my side- and backmirrors are vibrating pretty bad ... and the stock system is only 50watts ... i am worried about damage after i install my new 200watt system. do i need custom sound-dampening (dunno how to say that in english, basicly it's just an anti-vibration and soundproofing material)???
thanks for all the answers though

Sound dampening material could help up to a point. Try a search for "sound dampening" or "dynamat" in the audio section. You will at least find numerous threads with my opinions and links to photo albums of my car torn apart during my install.

you should invest in a set of MB Quart reference premium components and a decent amp to juice them...they sound awesome... oh yea... once you start with stereo stuff and say you only want this...you'll find yourself next getting a different headunit and then sub(s) and a class D amp to power it(them)...then you'll need a lil' dynamat for sure... :)

hehehe, i actually planning on installing an in-dash motorized tv-screen with a dvd player. i wanna build a playstation 1 into the car AND i want some decent audio ... dynamat will only be an issue if it doesn't add too much weight to the car ... i still wanna run in the 14's to 15's with the car .... :-)

xCeLiCaBoI916x- Look at the last pic I posted above. There are actually 2 speakers in the lower door location. A smaller speaker is mounted in a bracket in front of the larger one.
kawika- I sound damped the whole car, some areas in multiple layers. I used a total of 100sq ft at a weight of 30lbs. Weights of different products may vary slightly but it is a good estimate for you.
