why does my GT shut off at 110?

why does my GT shut off at 110? i dont get it. other people have stocks and get them to like 125+. i have no performance mods but i would think i could do better. its wierd too, it will accel up to 110 then it drops down to 3000 untill i hit about 103 then kicks it back in until 110. wtf is this? mabey i have a posessed celi. its a '01 GT auto btw.

its 4 spd auto right?.....maybe the gearing juss can't push it far enough......?...i might be wrong...

Speed governor. Apparently some Celicas have them and some don't. They're usually put on autos.

i have an auto, and this pass weekend to the beach, i did 120mph, i have trd exhaust and air filter, but i dont think it matters for anything, because stock, i've had mine up to 115mph. i'm sure that the car can do at least 125mph, i had the gas all the way to the floor, but i never hit 6grand on the tach on my way to accelerating, so it was a very gradual 120mph. i have a 2001, what year do you have?

What kind of tires came with your car? Sometimes that has something to do with it.

I've done 138 in my 2000 gt auto

135 felt like the limit, it just wouldnt go anymore, i hit 138 cus i was going downhill

Got mine real close to 115 stock, got to 115 easy with TRD exhaust. I have an Auto GT. I don't think there is a governor on my car at 110 though.

and that was with my aluminum wing, i might of been able to get 140 on the downhill without it ;)

You shouldnt have that problem Iceit. I have hit 135 easy without any troubles. I have a TRD exhaust and Injen CAI but that shouldnt matter.

I went out today to test this, I have an 02 Auto and I found that I don't have a governor, took the car up to 115. I think your problem might be the tires that come with the car, which I hear aren't too good.

my auto is a '01 and my wheels are Mille Miglia MM 112 17". i got goodyear eagle GS or GR tires i think. how would i know if i had a governer or not?

Well, I don't think it is your tires. The way I found out is I asked the people at the dealership.

I hit 133 bone stock when I first got my car it had about 7,000 miles on it when I did this so it was pretty much broken in GT 5-spd

Their normally isn't a governer, but the car need alot of room to over come acting forces to move to higher speeds. Try it downhill.

It all has to do with what speed rated tires the car had on from the factory. They can't legally allow the car to travel faster than the stock tires are rated.

Has ***ANYONE*** taken their 2002 Celica above 115MPH? I read somewhere that the 2002 is "redline limited" at 110....

That would be a serious gear change from 00-01 to 02 to be 'redline' limited at that speed. You talking 6 sp, 5 sp, auto....what?

im guessing that if your car comes stock with the base model hubcaps and S rated tires then the car is goverened to 112 mph cause thats the max safe speed rating on S rated tires, even if you change the tires the car still wont go faster cause you need to take out the governor

well...i can safely say that people speed because they want to test their car to the limit...like when i first got my celi...i pushed it all day...and after awhile...u calm down on it...doesn't necessary mean people cruise around at 110 all the time...
just my thoughts...

I would have to say that's still pretty stupid. I have had my celi for almost 2 1/2 years and I have hit 100 once. And that was stupid in my opinion. I just don't see a reason for anyone to ever have to drive that fast.
