The official announcement of the 2009 1 Series coupe is expected to be just a few weeks away, but spy photographers have yet to catch one fully "naked." These most recent shots are about as close as it gets. The car pictured is presumably the 135i variation, with a twin-turbo inline six, the same one found in the potent 335i coupes and sedans. With 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, this new "baby Bimmer" is sure to set the enthusiast scene in turmoil.
North America is expected to also get the 230-horsepower version of the naturally-aspirated 3.0-liter six that now resides in both the 328i and 528i. There is no expectation that North America will get any of the new four cylinder engines, but a diesel six is likely by 2010.
