Hey all im over from 9thgencorolla.com and wondering if you guys know what type of tranny work i will have to do to a auto 1zz. I plan on boosting it using the Hass kit and some light internals with the GT2871RS? think thats right neways i have talked to the owner of the shop that will do the work (Ballistic Motorsports out of NH) and he says the engine work is easy but i will run into tranny problems really fast.
So now here i am trying to figure out wtf to do about my tranny..levelten offers upgrades but they are as expensive as doing a swap which is also a option so what do you guys think? At this point i'm not sure what i'm gonna do i know 10k will be put in the rollie when i get back and i don't know what to do with it....i wanna try not to spend the whole 10k on engine/tranny since there are some suspension mods i want..but damn i'm stuck right now on what to do what do you guys think would be the safest/reliable/cheapest thing to do? (and no i'm not gonna just get a better car, i'm loyal to my rollie)

Tranny? Isn't that a man with boobs. Sh!t's weird. Sorry I can't answer your question, I just couldn't pass up the opertunity to be a jerk. I say swap the auto for a 5 speed.

it all depends on how you drive the car. i have seen 5 speeds take 350HP. my stock 6 speed with LSD is taking 420ish right now

The motor will blow before the trans. Depending on expected power levels the rods are a weak point on the 1ZZ's, and the pistons can fail on both 1ZZ and 2ZZ below 300 whp.
As to the transmission, unless you are shooting for over 300 whp, I think the only upgrade the trans will need is a beefier AT fluid cooler; I'd also switch to Toyota T-4 synthetic fluid.

I'm pretty sure he was going to replace the pistons and rods, so his only issue was the cost of upgrading the auto tranny vs. the cost of a manual swap.
