I rarely create threads on this forum anymore, so this will be my one for the year. :gap: So, after 72 days of waiting (placed order on March 28th) I finally picked up my new car. I still have the Celica, which I plan on restoring to "like new" condition at which point I'll sell it away. Anyway, on to the new car:

2007 Montego Blue BMW 328i Coupe 6MT
-Black leatherette/Gray Poplar wood interior
-Sport Package
-Logic7 Premium Sound
-iPod USB integration
-Power rear sunshade

Thanks guys, I'm absolutely loving it...but it's DAMN hard keeping it under 4kRPM for the break-in (redline is 7000)!

I guess I really am a bass-junkie, the premium sound system just isn't cutting it. Fortunately I have a JL Audio W7 & amp waiting for me inside the Celica...

The challenge will be to integrate the sub into the BMW system so that it not only looks good, but sounds good.

Speaking of BMWs I drove a 3.0i Z3 Wednesday.

Didn't enjoy it, particularly the drive by wire. However, I was amused by the fact it felt smaller than my Spyder.

STFU. I didnt ask how much he paid. I asked for specific monthly payments. Normal question on a car forum. Reason being because I was calculating that when I was actually interested in the coupe and contemplating keeping my celica.

Mark, Yeah the Z4 would be no good for you. My ex drove a Z3 and it was too tight for me. Id always bang my head on the top when getting in and out of the car. And being inside it felt too cramped and Im only 5'11". I did love how nimble it was in comparison to the 3 series I had.

ED is awesome, had I not been to Munich just last year I would've opted for it. I'll definitely consider doing it next time (if there is one).

The sedan isn't offered in a hardtop convy.

Also, your credit is still pretty good. If you can't get a decent finance rate through BMW financial try your bank or a 3rd party lender.

I was at the dealer and took the 328i coupe for a test drive. According to the rep, the lowest apr offered through BMW tier 1 is 750+. I thought it was bull**** but I then looked carefully at the BMW memorial day ads in the paper, in little fine prints it says BMW tier 1 credit of 750 qualifies. I went there under the impression that my credit was good enough only to be told that I didnt qualify for the financing deal being offered. With $4,385 down and 0% apr for first year, i was sold.

You need a 650 to be approved by BMW. I'll ask my sister in law what the top tier level is but if I remember correctly, she said that BMW lowered their standards and it's now at 700. I'll double check for you if you want.

Sometimes dealer run specials and make it exceptionally hard to get it by raising the mininum credit score to something rediculous as evident by your experience. Marketing tactics that borderline false advertising.

230 SAE HP is nothing to be ashamed of. Remember the 95-99 M3 have only 240hp which is almost the same as 230 SAE HP of todays, and the M3 was a considered quick in it's days.

I absolutely hated the BMW 3 series I test drove (drove both the 328 and 335)

my observations
-numb steering/no feedback
-obscene markup on options
-fantastic engines with flat power delivery
-interior quality was cheaper than I expect in a $32,000 + car
-interior was too large for both of us and there was no M-Sport seat option (which I have on my Z4 and fits me perfectly) - the seats also lacked side bolstering, however, if you're not 5'6" like I am, you probably fit into it ok (but I can fit into RX-7s, S2000s and Miatas with no problem as I'm the size of the average Japanese man!)

We both preferred the Audi A4 even though it didn't perform as well because it had more driver involvement and a vastly superior interior - don't get me wrong, the 3-series is a potent performer but it is too isolated and numb for my personal preference - its not fun to drive in my opinion

go to the "other cars" forum to read about it

also - most critics except Car and Driver are upset/disappointed by the new E92 M3

Wow, if you're talking about the sedans then maybe for a bone stock version, but not even close for the coupes. Add about $100/mo to each unless you're putting a rediculous amount on the down payment, which is basically throwing away money. Trust me, I researched this car for months before I even placed my order.

I saw your review on the 328i right after you posted it. You're MUCH more of a driving enthusiast than I am, there for I can see you having higher standards in terms of what you look for in a car. I guess I got old (26), but the aggressive-looking, high HP cars just don't do anything for me. I wanted a car that was classy, but still had some sport appeal to it. Also, I refuse to drive anything with more than 2 doors until I'm married! The only other cars I was considering were an Infiniti G35 (I REALLY didn't like driving that thing) and the Audi A5 (didn't feel like waiting that long). I have no regrets in purchasing this car, I absolutely love the smooth power delivery and the I think the E92's are one of the nicest looking coupes available.

Based on your criteria the 328i is the perfect car for you.

The G35 is a little rough around the edges
The G37 is a beasty but weighs way too much to make it fun

I'm dying to see the new A5, but I'm pissed they didn't put the 2.0T in there - chipped 2.0Ts make as much or more power than the 3.2 V6, but weigh about 150-200 lbs less.

The sport package includes the "sport" seats with side bolstering. I test drove one with normal seats and I can understand your lack of enthusiasm for them (though I'm 6'0, so I didn't encounter the same problem as you). The extra $1k for the package was worth it for the seats alone.

I forgot to mention I also test drove the Lexus IS250 which I REALLY liked. I read your review on that car as well and it seems you pretty much agree. I know it's stupid, but I just couldn't get over the extra 2 doors... :chuckles:

the sport seats still aren't supportive enough for me, especially compared to the M-Sports, which aren't even an option on the 3-series unless you get the M3
