So we got the new motor in and all hooked up.
We get spark in all four plugs.
We got fuel up to the rail, and the injectors work.

The problem is it fires once, then it just keeping turning over.
When we try to turn it over again it backfires from access fuel. For some reason it just wont start. We went over all the plugs and wiring by the book and everything is hooked up correctly.

Any ideas?

Thanks

What exactly have you done? Rebuild? a complete rebuild? I know that I had difficulty gettin mine to run at first but that was cuz the MAF was not hooked up! DUH! But at any rate, theres only a few MAJOR things that will keep it from running: Fuel, Ignition, Oil pump, and correct timing. If any of those are not correct it wont fire up. The ECU has to detect oil pressure building in order to start. Fuel and Ignit. are an obvious thing, and the cam/valve timing has to be EXACT. If not, just one tooth off on the cam sprocket will keep the motor from making correct compression to start. Hope I help..... :]

I cant exactly tell you what has been done but I can tell you we fixed the timing and now it runs. "And its fast"

awesome, awesome!
was the timing the culprit for not wanting to start? What kept it from running? just outta curiousity!

Sounds to me kinda like they had the cams out of time.

So cruzer, did you just get the engine from a Junk yard or what ended up happening here?

New block, tranny, head from Toyota
20K mile complete motor from junkyard
My old ( no blown ) motor. It only had 2 bent valves. ( liers! )

Current motor = new block and tranny with re-ground cams, cam gears ( cams from junkyard ) and new valves, retainers, ported and some other stuff. ;-)

Now I got two blocks to play with.

Wow, that's impressive. Who did the CAM regrinds and port/polish. what gains are you expecting?

gts24, I prefer not to talk about it on the board as there are to many lamers that will just flame me. If you want more info IM me or email me. I don't like the little people that don't know crap and flame like hell.
I do expect some performance but its really for a turbo project called JTP.

Did you regrind the high and low lift lobes or just the high lift lobe? I could definitely see taking some meat off the high lift cam to try and get it to behave better with a turbo on it. Thats a pretty darn good idea, be interesting to see how it works out in the end.
