MR2 Spyder.

I was completely sold on buying a celica.. then I wandered into the alternatives to turboing a celi thread... and saw that the Spyder was in my price range. The only thing that I don't like is the storage capacity of the spyder, but I'm in college and have spent the entire spring semester on my R6, which can barely store a stick of butter, and got along great. What do you guys think?

Celica GT or MR-S

The MR-S is in your price range? Have you thought about what insurance rates would be for a roadster like that?

I find it hard to believe that a Spyder would be more cheaper than a 5speed GT.

Insurance is cheaper on it...
Progressive quotes me 148 a month for a 2000 celica GT
and quotes me 145 a month for a 2000 MR-S

MR-S. I think it's uglier, but its better in almost every way. At least the MR-S accepts that its a "hater car" (two-seater). The back seats in the celica's are ridiculously small.

But they're still useful ;) . If you want to be an engine swap away from having a monsterous car, get the MR2 Spyder. Autotrader search results of 300 mile radius's get me Spyders as cheap as $9,000 now. If you want backseats and a econobox FWD car, get the Celica. It will have a TON of storage space too. I knew what I needed for college...

Spyder, no questions asked, I came from a 5-speed Celica GT and even stock there is no comparison....and everybody is completely right about the 2zz
