LoL. Sounds like a marketing term to me. I don't think anything is lifting. http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smile.gif

actually it does have to do with lift if Im right.. it has to do with the amount of lift on the rockers or something.. I cant remember exact terms but Im remembering how the engine works in my head and there is more "lift" at 6000 on the big part of the cam http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smile.gif

Larry is has it right.. a little further on that...

The cam profile has a bigger lobe which "lifts" the rocker arm higher forcing the valve open more. More air = more power at higher RPM's. Of course there is such a thing as too much air but you don't need to worry about that right now.

Oh I see. So the cam lobes are a bit bigger, which pushes the rocker arm higher, squeezes the springs farther, and opens the valves wider.

So the rocker arm is what's lifting higher.. I guess

I got a question: Did Honda drivers ever call VTEC lift? Or was the term invented by Celica drivers?

So the rocker arm is what's lifting higher.. I guess Here's (http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/vvtlikick/vwp?.dir=/public/Graph&.dnm=Celica+Camshaft+Lift.gif.gif&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t) a graph I made to approximate the camshaft lift of the 2ZZGE engine (lift at the valve will be greater, because the rocker arm acts as a lever).

The larger curves correspond to the "big cam", and the "advance" and "retard" correspond to most advanced or retarded VVT-i positions.

Note: The graph shows the exhaust stroke, followed by the intake stroke.

Maelfyn.. Yeah.. you are right.. really it is the rocker that is lifting on one side.

Hmmm on that note it is also pushing down on the other side of the rocker... so that could have been VVTPI... Naaah... VVTLI sounds better hehehehe..

vvtlikick... not that I know of... It is usually just called VTEC... Even though we could call it lift because the 2 systems are virtually the same. (VTEC = Variable Timing and Electronic "lift" Control)

(VTEC = Variable Timing and Electronic "lift" Control)[/B]NO. NO. NO! VVTL-i is far superior to VTEC, because we have a continously variable cam gear as well http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Only the iVTEC on the RSX-S has a chance against the combined might of Toyota and Yamaha.
