Here you guys go, a real review to squash all the rumors and BS. Very impressive I might add, same numbers almost as the rsx-s. Got torque?

damn 2.7L V6....and it's only pushing out the same as a GTS......reminds me why I bought my Celi

Impressive for a Hyundai, not all that impressive for any other type of car.

And in the GT, that V6 is Hyundai's 2.7 liter, Delta twin-cam, 24-valve engine. Also shared with the Sonata sedan and Santa Fe SUV...
Numbers seem kinda average for a 2.7L v-6 to me. Nothing impressive, but the fact that its a hyundai.
Acura RS-X
2.0-liter DOHC I4
HP: 200
Torque: 142 lb feet
0-60 mph: 6.9 seconds
1/4 mile: 15.4 seconds @ 94 mph
EPA Mileage: 24 mpg city 31 mpg highway
Hyundai Tiburon GT
2.7 liter twin-cam, 24-valve engine V6
Horsepower: 181
Torque: 177 lb feet
0-60 mph: 7.1 seconds
1/4 mile: 15.4 seconds @ 91 mph
EPA Mileage: 18 mpg city 26 mpg highway
I'd say the RSX does it much more efficiently. Got Weight?

The korean spec tiburon is 220bhp, they restricted the us version for insurance purposes. The hp is made up though the aem intake(16.2 HP) new catback(12 HP) and the soon to be released headers(18 HP). I think your little 4 banger is pretty much maxed out, same as the rsx. Got a V-6?

popcorn: :gay: ...yea im pretty happy i dont have a v6 right now..its just as fast as a celi mabey slower? and it eats more gas..im not flaming im just giving my opinion...and you say that were pretty much maxed out like the rsx? wrong.. check out the 220 hp rsx in japan its lighter faster and its still a four banger with a 2.0 liter...the new tib looks are improving but the fact that it makes 181hp for a v6 is average..now if it made 100hp per liter then mabey its some to look at..just like i said earlier im giving my opinion...

I understand what your sayin bro, im just havin fun with this, its cool to see how quick us guys(and gals for the women in the house) stick up for there rides with alot of pride. It just sucks that they restricted the hell out of the US spec Tib when it could be pushin 220 BHP and 205ftlb torque like the korean spec. Thats cool though, thats what makes this hobby so much fun, they(foreign) make us work hard for our gains and that way we take even more pride in our rides.
Actually, you detractors are merely showing your ignorance. In the real world torque beats peak bhp. Efficiency? How do you measure efficiency? Are you speaking about engine? Or are you speaking about the car? And what metrics are you speaking about? bhp/liter is only one measure of "efficiency".
BHP per liter doesn't mean squat, guys. ZO6 Vette outsprints a Ferrari 360 Modena and the BMW M3 and the Honda S2000 and the Honda Integra Type R and the Celica GT-S... As does the Ferrari 575M and the Lamborghini Murcielago. And my point? The vehicle doesn't give a rat's arse about bhp/liter. It merely wishes for maximum thrust at the driven wheels.

I'll take the torque too. That's my only complaint about the Celica. Yeah, we have the gearing advantage, but that only looks good in a straight line.
On the other hand, even if the Hyundai had 220hp, I race on courses with turns, and at the first one of those the Hyundai is in my rearview mirror never to be seen again.
And, even if it did pass me back, I could easily out brake it to make the next pass.

The torque definitely makes driveability much nicer. Thats why full on race cars are geared so high, because they usually sacrifice torque for more peak HP, and need to gear the hell out of em to be able to launch quickly. I dont know the torque of the Solara but its a 3.0L V6 with only 200 hp- but compared to my auto celica it completely destroys me to about any speed (in a straight line).

I love my Celi, but them Tibs look good. If I could make it say Toyota on the back, or sh!t, anything else, I'd buy it!! The only prob i have with it, it that it wieghs in at the lower 3000lbs...make it the same weight as the celi, and it would be a beast of a car! Anything with more TQ then me is desireable!! lol

Toyota Solara SE-V-6
3.0-liter DOHC 24-valve EFI V6
200 hp @ 5,300 rpm1
214 lb.-ft. @ 4,400 rpm
Toyota Solara SLE V-6
3.0-liter DOHC 24-valve EFI V6
198 hp @ 5,300 rpm1
212 lb.-ft. @ 4,400 rpm
decent torque figures
Sirk 2, you could always take off the hyundai badges and get the aftermarket tuscani badges, then eveyone will be wondering what the hell is that

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
preach on Chui!
hp/liter doesn't win races guys, if you honestly think its a mark of ANYTHING worth a squat in the performance world, go to blockbuster and rent the Fast and The Furious cuz thats the only world you could survive in.
GT-S....higher hp numbers out of it snegine displacement..now look at its aftermarket.
RSX-S...look above
Tib has potential written all over that motor, and if you don't want to believe that, Fine, but you dont have to look any further than my V6 to see how much potential is worth once you start modifying a car.
I love how defensive import enthusiasts get the moment somethign larger comes along that can run with them stock, but has potential they couldn't dream of.

I'm interested to see how strong they made the components in the Tib and how much they can up the performance before stuff starts breaking. Not to say that it will, but Hyundai is not known for building the most robust vehicles, so it'll be very interesting to see how it goes. If I had webspace I'd upload a vid I have of a dual engine Tib doing some crazy 4-wheel burnouts.
As for HP/Liter, well, it's impressive and all. Just like powering a clock off a potatoe, but in the end it's just another perk. What good HP/Liter usually will tell you is that the vehicle can make more with less, just like the Celica. 180 horses (I won't mention torque :P) in a 2500 pound car, that's why you want high HP/Liter numbers. It's just a performance spec, but by no means a be all end all type of deal. Hell, a late mkIII Supra Turbo is a mammoth at 3500 pounds, but it already hangs with the Celica in stock trim, and with the money some Celica owners put in their cars the Supra will be smokin' 13s at the track no prob, if not lower. Oh yeah, this is with 5-speed or A/T, doesn't matter all that much.
Oh yeah, and quit bringing up that F&F movie, god knows how much I am trying to forget about it.
Boy Wonder: "Hoooo, Celica boy eh?"
Me: "Huh?"
Caped Crusader: "So, you got Juuuuuuuice in that thing or what?"
Me: "Uh....."
Boy Wonder: "Cause if you ain't got juice, then you ain't Fast or Furious!!!!"
Me: "Ugh! :rolleyes:"
Unfortunately the above encounter is based on a true story :(

If I didnt love my celica so much, id prolly buy one....
Why would I not buy a Tiburon? I for one like the high-revving nature of my car. Doesn't make it better than any other car objectively. It's what I like. Why? Because it captures AN element of a racing car or a sports/racing car. As does the chassis balance, direct brake pedal, the induction noise, the lack of sound package, the Recaro seats, instant throttle response, stiff chassis and suspension, etc, etc. The Tiburon is not as focused a car as I'd like to have at this point in my life.
It also has little history at this point in time, but this model may help it significantly in the near future when the next model comes out.
The car is not as refined as a Toyota and it's reliability is something of an unknown to me.
I'd opt for the Nissan Sentra SE-R at a similar cost, known reliability/durability, reputation, history, etc, etc. all which equates to resale value. I've driven that car and itis evey bit as fun to drive in the real world as my ITR... Just different.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only reason for high specific output is if you're [b](a) limited to a fixed displacement powerplant or (b) you're limited to a small or lightweight vehicle platform. If you then upsize the engine the transmission must be made beefier to handle the torque as does the halfshafts, the engine mounts, the engine mount brackets and the subframe must be looked at. Keep the small displacement engine you limit the ultimate peak torque [but at a higher rpm] but if you can improve the combustion efficiency while simultaneously increasing the volumetric efficiency you end up with an ITR, GT-S type of powerplant/vehicle combination. Or at least the capability is there.
For a great comparison compare any modern sports car to the Corvette Z06 and Viper GTS. Only the Lamborghini Murcielago and perhaps the Ferrari 575M are comparable for normally aspirated cars that are currently in production. The engines make interesting comparisons as well with the DOHC, multi-valve, high-revving large displacement engines making more torque and bhp, obviously.
Are you Korean for sure? Do I see you clowning on Hyundai? ehhhehe j/k
Tiburon Korean spec is putting out more power..it has been that way from the first Gen Tiburon. Koreans don't call it Tiburon neither.. First Gen is Tiburon, Second is Turbulence, and this one is called Tusucani in Korea. Koreans change their car name so much, Americans cant never keep up with it.
I had a GTS before, it was fast, but only limited to high rpm range.
I now have a car that only has 160HP but 180lb/ft of torque peaking at 2800rpm, it is much easier to drive around town, and no need to downshift on a hill.
Don't be fooled by peak numbers of horsepower and torque.
torque is good, but put two cars up next to each other...one with more torque...one with more horsepower.....with everything else the same. which one will win in the quarter? the one with more HP. thats why most twin turbo engines get upgraded with a single turbo...less low end torque...more high-end horsepower. and why is it such a big deal to have a high hp/liter output? because that equals a small, lightweight engine. how do you think the celica got to be so light? it certainly wasn't by putting a big heavy V6 in the front. this is also one of the reasons the celica handles the way it does...light weight engine. and lighter weight means that mods will make more of a difference on the celica. and as for being maxed out...no engine from the factory is maxed out.
i'm not saying the tib is crap. i like the new body style much more than the old one. its just that 3000lbs is too much for the 180hp in the car stock. it puts it in the same range as a cougar v6.
VZV21
Let's say for a Supra TT
On a straight line at the drag strip, of course the car with the big turbo would win.
Add some twisties to the equation, the twin sequential turbo one will have the edge because the one with the big turbo will have some serious lag, while the small turbo is still spooled.
For this case, it's going to depend on what kind of course you are driving or racing. Rally cars don't go for ultimate horsepower, they look for the broadest torque and horsepower band they can, even if it means it sacrifaces peak horsepower numbers.
