Well true I guess... well lets see if theres anything left for me to improve on my celi....
lightweight 17" rims(volks are sounding nice), bigger brakes(rotors/calipers, I'm thinking TRD), sport shocks/struts/swaybars(again I am thinking trd or hotchkis), Limited-slip differential(i think that one company...um.... oh yea TRD I think has some). By now my car would handle like a dream.. but it still could use a little bit more push(oops i mean pull)... Supercharger sounds nice... I think ill call up blitz.
Point is, I think most people who trade up after a short time just want the next latest greatest thing. Theres just no pleasing some people. I think they would end up not being happy until they end up with a ferarri. oh wait a minute... my ferarri only gets 12 MPG??? I guess I gotta take the bus until I get paid! And on and on and on and on......
I'm not saying its true for all people trading up, but it is for many. I'll be happy with my car until I get married.

teh celica is a very nice well balanced car, but i think some people just demand more power than the car cna make right now, along with other things like boredom with teh car after 2,3 years or just wanting something diffeent. its teh sme for me and my v6

i dun see the problem w/ trading in your car for a faster car or a car w/ more torque, but to the people that totaled their celica because of racing or pushing their cars to the limit scares me, because first off they were already out of control in their celica, I can only imagine what they're going to do w/ a faster car =/

On a majority of autox courses, the GT is as fast as the GT-S, yet it is classed in a slower class. I can run a GT-S against WRX's, Type R's, Eclipse/Talon Turbo AWD or I can run a GT against CRX's, Neons, Probes/MX-6's, 2.5RS's, etc...

the honest reason why i'm selling my car, is because I had this obsession with the evolution lancer... so when i heard it was coming to the US... i HAVE to get it...
Evo is what i am looking for, 4-door, AWD, turbo... for around 30k... it's a really appealling car... and i fell in love with the evo 6, so I want the evo 7... it will also be my show car...
will i miss the celi, yes...
did i have great times with the celi, yes...
but i will make the evo 10 times better then my celi

I don't know. That's a good question. There have been more than a few that mentioned they were getting something else after a couple of years dealing with numerous and repeated problems. I guess you'd be itching to replace any car that had given you problems. Maybe I'll do a poll.

umm..i've had my GTS since Jan 2000..been a member on here since the beginning..i don't have any plans to trade up or down in the near future..however, i didn't buy my GTS to be cool, impress the ladies, or wear a sunvisor on the side of my head..the GTS was what i was in the market for at the time..it has served me well and still is an enjoyment to drive..once it is paid off, i might trade it in on the next supra or mod it to hell and keep it..along with the supra..i don't think most ITR owners fit the same profile as Celica owners..the Celica was, and still is, a styling statement to most..there has been sort of a Celica explosion around here this past year..which is good for Toyota..kinda bad for us since most of the new Celica owners are rather plump secretary types..there will always be something faster, better looking, cheaper, etc..i prefer to enjoy what i have instead of chasing the latest fad.

The comment wasn't directed toward the car or that only Celica owners are doing this. I was just noticing that certain members of this board were giving up their car (all being the same kind of car) for something else. I was wondering how it might effect the participation of these long time members in discussions on this board.

When my lease is up next April, I am thinking about a used Miata. That handles better, and has less room :) It is slower in a straight line though. But, a JRSC could pretty much solve that and still leave a reliable, easy daily driver, but fun as hell.
If the Celica came out in a convertable, I would consider that for the next car. But I want RWD dammit, and the Celica will never do that. If it did, I would get that.

Mine has all four, but again, looks are in the eye of the beholder. But the other three, there is a definite difference. My M outhandles the celica, obviously has more power, and I can fit 4 comfortably in my car.

I will never, ever, trade in my Cel . . . . Oh yeah, whoops. I traded in 2 Celicas within 8 months. :D
I "upgraded" to a vehicle that weighs twice as much and seats 1/2 as many, but also handles almost as well, and has a little bit more power. ;)
Let them trade there Celicas in .... so ours can look more rare and stunning ... and also turn more heads. I still love it when you get peeps sayin OOOOO WHATS THAT CAR ! (especialy chicks when there right infront of there boyfriend ... it pisses the boyfriend off! LOL)
The car handles great ... The LIFT brings a smile to my face every time .... also the sound is a head turner. The car looks sweet when cleaned up ready for a night crusing around town!. And its a toyota ... at least in my case ... perfect shape/sound/looks since i bought the baby! If i had any more power i might just be in a pile of speeding tickets! ... I love my Celi. Sure, it's not the fastest car around, but I fell in love with how it looks a long time ago, and I'm not going away now. It still looks almost as good as the day I bought it, it's a hell of a lot of fun to drive, and it fits just fine in my budget. Sure, I'd love to have a Corvette, but I don't think I'm settling for too little. It's a great car.

It all depends on what you want to do, and the opportunity at hand. Granted, I didn't trade my car in. I belive (correct me if I'm wrong larry), I was the first one to put a celica in a lake (more like flash flood). So I needed a car, and had the opportunity to buy this one. I went from a GT auto, to the M, at about the same time I really got into modding, and working on cars. So I really appreciate what I have to work with and get more enjoyment out of it. And now, I'm trying to set the car up so that I can get into auto cross next year.
Don't get me wrong, I loved my celi. I took care of it like it was my first born child. But I get more enjoyment out of this car, in terms of pure driving pleasure.

Wow, after doing an unscientific count of those who have or do own Celicas and made fairly clear their positions it would appear that nearly three times as many owners plan on keeping their cars as are getting rid of them. 18 pro and 7 con.

I don't think I'm ever going to sell my car. It's my first car so there's some sentimetal value in the car. I don't see myself being able to pay cash for another car within the next 6 or so yrs, so I'll drive the Celica till then. When the time comes for me to get another car, it's going to be a big step up like an M3 or something in that class. That's assuming that the Celica doesn't get in to a wreck or get stolen*knock on wood*.

I'm also in the trading up boat... I am not unhappy with my car, I love the celi. I just want something with a little more power all the time, not just high rpms. I also have been bit by the RWD bug, where I just gotta have it... So I've been looking around for something RWD, and a V6 in the import market, that still has style/handling that I love from the Celica. This being said, I mean new car, not used... As I am one to need/use the warranty to the fullest... I always get extended warranties, and I always get more than my money's worth... Guarunteed! Now for what to get... so far I'm in love with the 350Z, but this may change once I drive one... I don't think so... but Sh^t happens...

I'm not saying it doesn't happen with other cars. I was just noticing that recently, a lot of long time members were doing this. It was an interesting spike in the trade up number. I hope to be upgrading from the ITR soon too. I probably won't get rid of it though. I'm sick of FWD. It sucks.

I plan on keeping my Celica till it's inoperable.
That's all there is to it. I'm not made outta money, and I just can't handle trading up every 2 or 3 years because I don't like my car.
Of course, I did get a WRX, too...but I really think it doesn't compare to my Celica...at least not yet....stock vs. stock, the Celica owns the WRX in my opinion, even though it's slightly outdone at the dragstrip by it.
In the looks department, the Celica will always win.
I got about 5 different compliments yesterday when I was waxing my car.....I didn't get squat when I was washing the REX.
I'm sorry..but it just doesn't compare in it's total package to the Celica..
It might be easier to extract power from, but the Celica is the car my wife and I choose to go cruising in.
Heheh....just my opinion..but I love my Celi.

I agree. I'm not made out of money either. Again, I was in a particular situation, and really didn't have a choice. I was looking at a few different cars, and this just fell in my lap. I mean a new A4, even checked out a passat, but this for what I paid, well, you'd be an idiot not to take it.
But at the same time, I love this car, and am glad I got to "trade up".

Front wheel drive is not the choice when looking SOLELY at performance. FWD is nothing more than a packaging, weight and cost savings for the manufacturer, which leads to a more economical vehicle for the consumer. FWD is perfectly fine for *most* people though, as the advantage of cost and foul weather drivability, greatly outweighs the need for rear wheel drive performance, myself included. I like the lightweight performance generated by FWD sport compacts like the Celica GT-S, along with the features and styling, for a low $20,000 price, not to mention the extremely low operationg costs and high reliablilty.
I myself will be keeping my car for quite a while (add 1 more oldster!), as I find it fits my needs perfectly. I need a FUN, economical, practical, car that I can drive DAILY, occassionally hold my daughter in the back, or fold the seats for Home Depot runs, which I do not need to service frequently, and good looks doesn't hurt either. If it was RWD, would it make it anymore attractive to me, not really, although a few more ft/lbs down low, and a LSD might.

lightweight 17" rims(volks are sounding nice), bigger brakes(rotors/calipers, I'm thinking TRD), sport shocks/struts/swaybars(again I am thinking trd or hotchkis), Limited-slip differential(i think that one company...um.... oh yea TRD I think has some).
I'll be happy with my car until I get married.
sounds a lot like what I did to my car
im considering a miata..i really am.
handling is better. looks are about the same to me.
i love that car.

The convertible celica is supposed to come out next year is it not?
I won't b trading mine anytime soon as I don't see anything comparible for the same price. I absolutely love the damn car and I can't see parting with it until the end of it's usefull life. CELICA UBER ALLES (well, for it's class anyway).

I almost traded to a WRX in December, but I couldn't get a price I liked. After some of the problems Subie owners have had with warranty work, I don't think I'll EVER buy a Subie. Can you imagine having warranty tranny work denied because you have AFTERMARKET TIRES ON YOUR CAR?!?!?!
Right now, I'm really interested in the Mini.
