I am thinking about getting a Radar-Laser jammer to supplement my detector. The amount of driving I do and how radar happy the cops are here in CT, I could use all the help I can get.

How legal are those jammers in CT?

Truthfully I dont think they are legal anywhere. Radar detectors are legal in CT,but I think a jammer is like obstructing justice:chuckles:

The only ones that work are the active jammers and they are illegal everywhere due to the FCC. Also if you think it will let you get away with something, think again....95% of all the jammers in the test left a signature mark so that most of the troopers knew what was being used...Kinda defeats the purpose of them huh. Save your money and buy a Valentine 1 instead and then you will be the best protected you can be and still be legal.

Well, I have a Phantom II laser detector/jammer and it's saved my a$$ several times. Whether it be laser or radar, it jams it pretty good until you can slow down. It may be kinda big and all, but, it's no bigger than the Valentine. I am not knocking Valentine at all cuz they are good radar detectors, and not to mention the fact that I worked for them and built them for a while, but... they aren't worth the money they want for them. I mean, who cares if you know where the cop is when he's lasering you? Once he turns the gun on, your dead. At least with the jammer, you have time to react. In the days before laser, I loved the Valentine, but... with instant on, there really isn't even a point to have a regular detector anymore if you live close to a big city as I do (big cities usually have laser.)

Just food for thought.

Actually, one of my buddy's got something in the mail for a discounted one a year or so ago. But, you can search for them on the internet, or, you can call Heartland America to purchase them. I don't have their phone number off the top of my head, but their website is www.heartlandamerica.com.

Actually a Laser/Radar Jammer is a good rice mod, like most rice mods they DON'T WORK

snip.....
Except for the Phantom, which contains rudimentary radar-detection circuitry, each is essentially an empty box with a 12-volt power cord, a cheap cast-plastic waveguide assembly, one or two front-mounted LEDs, a basic power-supply circuit and a button or two. Press the button and an LED lights up, accompanied by a tinny bird whistle. ("Our patented 'FM Chirp', " company salesmen proudly proclaim.) We've tested these products a dozen times against every front-line police radar gun and laser, finding all of them utterly worthless.

Interestingly, while we were riding with Texas Highway Patrol trooper Mack Wallace near Houston recently, he stopped a Dodge minivan with Colorado plates. On the dash was a spanking new Phantom jammer. The van pilot was told he'd been speeding. "Impossible," said the agitated driver, "my Phantom jammed your radar."

"Didn't seem to be doing much jamming when you came by me," deadpanned the trooper. "I got you at 69 mph in a 55 mph zone. Maybe you should take it back for a refund."

The test they did said that the only part of the jammer that worked was the lidar part. However they said putting your brights on worked as well... This was an independent testing facility using real cops and the actual guns they used. Laser is hard to pick up fortunately not too many places here in Cinci are using them yet. Most are still using K or Ka. But most importantly you can prove that Lidar isn't that accurate. If you want to go to court and all that mess. The technical whitepaper is too long for me to put down here but there are a lot of things the officer can do that can throw off the speed reading by as much as 17 mph. I have also noticed that the Celica is a hard car to hit with Laser or Radar due to it's gently sloping front lines..However when you have the license plate on the front it aint hard to hit at all. But you take that off and interesting things happen.

Interesting that I have been laser-ed several times and had been speeding and never got pulled over. I'd say it works.

Another interesting note is on that link, they describe a Phantom radar detector, not a Phantom II. The Phazer that is on there is an old version as well, considering the Phazer is half the size as the one pictured in that story nowadays. Now, I am not going to sit here and debate it, but, if the Phantom II comes with a "pay your ticket if you use this product and get nailed for one year" guarantee, obviously the thing somehow works. A company isn't going to sit there and pay out ticket after ticket after ticket if they know their product does not work.

No matter what though, if the police want to pull you over, they will, whether you jam the signal, detect the signal, or whatever. They actually don't even need instruments to measure your speed out west (not sure where specifically, I just remember reading about it), they have classes for the police officers to learn to measure the speed of a car just by eyeballing them. I don't see how this would hold up in court, but... that's another scenario.

Well don't get mad at me :) I didn't say they don't work... I said that flipping your headlights on bright or getting one of those laser jammer covers for your license plate was proven just as good.....But I didn't say they didn't work on laser. BTW they will only pay the ticket if you were going less than 30% over the speed limit..And they will only pay for one ticket. But I agree with you if they want to they can always make something up to pull you over.

Nothing will allow you to "win" some things just give you a little better edge than trying to see them with your naked eye.

Yeah, I knew about the "up to a certain amount over the speed limit" clause, just didn't figure it applied here. Also, I'm not getting mad at anybody, just stating facts... hehehe Somebody asked a question, and I figured I'd share some opinions.

Personally, I wanna see a full size movie of that chick in Zsolt's sig, :-)
