Paris Hilton Gets Lexus LFA as Birthday Gift from BF Cy Waits (http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2011/02/paris-hilton-gets-lexus-lfa-as-birthday-gift-from-bf-cy-waits.html)
Such is life when you're in a position to get free cars. The newest of which is a bright yellow Lexus LFA given to her for Valentines Day / her 30th birthday from Vegas nightclub mogul and boyfriend, Cy Waits If you're going to combine gifts, might as well make it a big one, right?

Dyno Tested: 2012 Lexus LFA (http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2011/04/dyno-tested-2012-lexus-lfa.html)
9000 rpm. The engine has ceased being a mechanical device and is now an organism, absolutely shredding the air around it with its howl. Here it has just passed its power peak of 514 horsepower. Bam! The LFA hits the rev limiter like a wall. You have tunnel vision and your jaw is slightly agape. Your brain is the consistency of oatmeal.
This engine is gobsmacking. There are engines with more power, more torque, sure. But there is nothing on the planet like this engine. Its output as measured at the wheels -- which is slighly ahead of expectations -- is secondary to the experience it delivers. Raise a glass and wish it well, dear readers, as the 171 examples of the LFA that will be sold stateside will house the only known examples of this scintillating V10. Shame that something so good is limited to so few.

That is why they went to computer controlled. If you go on ebay and watch a few pulls around with this car, you can see it's not necessarly linear. A normal tach wouldnt suffice... so i've read

The LFA is either underrated at 552 chp or has an extremely efficient driveline. I think it's the former. Probably makes closer to 570-580 at the crank.

^^^ Their factory car race vids are movies to me now, not real racing. In the second lap when the LFA, GTR and GT2 RS are neck to neck coming into the first turn, the Porsche driver let off and let the GTR go through. Typical, when Tsuchiya pushes the other drivers back off and let him go though. Not to mention his trouble shifting. No excuse for the GT2 RS not winning imo. The LFA with a more competent driver couldve done alot better vs the GTR too.

Kinoshi_ta was taking some horrible racing lines with the LFA. Combine that with the least torque of the bunch and gearing that's not well-suited to this track and you have that result. Porsche should have done better had the driver not have issues with shifting. ZR-1 needs a driver with balls to take advantage of the available power. The 458 should have been there, not the 430.
Soo__Fuego
05-12-2011, 05:21 PM
^^^ That jerk off even got the slowest lap time in the LFA.:faint: But that lap time proved the GT2 RS is faster, still cant believe it didnt win.
<iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lh0pX7_HKZA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I hope Toyota revises the gearing or puts a lower final drive for the Nurburgring edition. Also, the tranny shifts slow imo, you can see the drivers head jerk a lil when ushifting.

Enter either of the two buildings at the Motomachi plant, where the LFA is made, and you'll find your senses quickly overloaded. Despite its hangar-like size, the place is more premium body shop than factory: paint scents hang in the air, while heaters and air extractors hum steadily, punctuated by the whirs and bursts of torque wrenches. And then there's the car. It can be seen in all stages of assembly here, from sheets of carbon fabric to the finished article — a captivating sight.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s02.jpg
For each LFA, there's about 10,000 parts, including engine, drivetrain, framing, and, of course, spools of carbon thread for the LFA's ultra-light carbon-fiber components. The thread starts its plant journey at either the special 3D carbon-braiding machine or the now well-known Lexus “loom,” one of only a few in the world (shown here), that weaves the carbon into tubes of various thicknesses.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s03.jpg
Some of the raw carbon-fiber gets laser-cut and then advanced to “lay-up”—a technique that takes specialists about six months to master. Here, resin-saturated carbon-fiber sheets are layered on molds to create dashboard panels and side members. Each carbon fiber layer, up to 13 in all, is heated with a hand-held dryer and then shaped with white-gloved fingers. Each new layer is then vacuum-sealed (left) to ensure bubble-free adhesion to the preceding layer.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s05.jpg
Other carbon-fiber components, like the floor tunnel, require a different technique. Here, larger pre-cut, resin-infused carbon sheeting, spun in the 3D carbon braiding machine—which gives the sheets both vertical and lateral stitching for greater strength—are shaped by specialists like Ryuuta Murakami. Says Murakami: “Handling carbon is a bit like being a sushi chef. You need to be aware of how the temperature of your fingers influences the product.”
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s06.jpg
Specialists then harden the larger carbon fiber components via a process inspired by the aviation industry, where carbon fiber is a mainstay. Inside the special LFA Works is a vast autoclave that cures the resin at just over 150 degrees Fahrenheit for about eight hours.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s07.jpg
Once the LFA body shell takes form, holes are drilled for wiring and hoses. But drilling perfect holes in super-tough carbon fiber is no small task, as drilling specialist Akira Yamaguchi explains: “Carbon has its own complexities and uniqueness. It's a little like bamboo under the drill. And every day I find out something new about the way it behaves. To account for this, we apply 32 different drill bits, some with bespoke tips and diamond coatings, for the finest, purest cuts.”
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s08.jpg
When the body shell components are complete, the surfaces are slightly roughened with a treatment of water and abrasives, which makes them ready for bonding. Then, for some parts, glue is applied by robot (one of the few around); after that, specialists apply glue to the remaining body shell parts and conduct initial inspections.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s09.jpg
A quick note on the workers here: LFA-manufacturing boss, Shigeru Yamanaka, helped the company hand-pick the LFA team from around Lexus, which makes the entire team the best of the best. But there's no ego. Instead you'll find cool, intense focus or thoughtful group chats about such topics as avoiding scratches. And almost everyone seems to be smiling—and the ones who aren't still have a contented glow about them.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s10.jpg
Here, Yoshinao Miyata, an expert on body rigidity, oversees strength tests for each assembled carbon-fiber body. Says Miyata: “We load the carbon body with 200 kilograms of weight. If a gauge registers a deformation over our tolerance at any critical point, it's a fail. There have been no fails to date.”
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s11.jpg
“We also do a 567-point body-uniformity check with a coordinate measuring machine,” Miyata continues. This test involves inserting the carbon-fiber skeleton in this enclosed, see-through enclave, then running the measuring machine over the vehicle frame along a track; the device takes in data with a gentle brush.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s12.jpg
Meanwhile, the vehicle's body panels undergo painting; larger areas are painted by robot, while more intricate ones are made by hand. Kei Sano, who works on the body-painting team, tells us that if even a miniscule defect is found, the paint process is scrutinized and corrected (plus the part may be stripped and repainted). “As for colors, the most popular is white,” says Sano. “Me? I like Yellow Mica the best.”
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s13.jpg
Here, Osamu Kaieda of the paint logistics team (right) moves smaller components through the paint area and prepares pieces for painting. Sanding, which is part of carbon-fiber surface prep, is done by hand, says Kaieda, because it takes a craftsman's delicate touch to apply the right amount of pressure to the material. “You need a deep understanding of the material,” he explains.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s14.jpg
Speaking of components, it takes only one working day for the team to convert all 10,000 of them into a finished LFA. It's a tight operation, but it's certainly not mass production. The best analogy is that of an extremely efficient, high-tech body shop, one filled with hands-on craftsmen.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s15.jpg
Two cases in point: On the left, a member of the engine-fitting team personally inspects mechanical components, while on the right, an interior cabin piece gets a polish (notice how it's resting on a soft, no scratch platform specifically designed for this particular item).
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s16.jpg
One of the pleasures of visiting the LFA Works: mechanical components laid bare. Out of nowhere, one of the V10s will start up with a rasping growl that instantly drops to a deep, animalistic rumble. You can feel it through the soles of your shoes. Then a quality checker squeezes the throttle, the engine note soars, and you could easily confuse this place for a speedway pit lane.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s17.jpg
Meanwhile, the carbon fiber body shell has moved further along its componentry journey...
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s18.jpg
...where it eventually receives its painted body panels, wheels, and remaining interior pieces.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s19.jpg
Kenichi Nomoto, the logistics team leader—a title that means that nothing is achieved at the LFA Works without his knowledge—constantly reminds the assembly staff not to rush. “If one part is defective, the entire process stops,” he says. “And if a part is late, we work overtime to keep to our output of one car per day.”
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s20.jpg
The last step inside the facility: post-assembly inspections, an elaborate affair conducted in a closed off room with a lighting arrangement designed specifically for the LFA. Here, the specialists check for secure fitting and perfect alignment of each car's exterior components. If there's 1/100th of a millimeter difference in, say, a panel gap from one side to the other, it's adjusted to perfection.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s21.jpg
After passing inspections, each LFA is turned over to test driver Nobuaki Amano, who has, without a doubt, one of the coolest jobs in the world: conduct LFA performance checks at the LFA Works' test track. With each vehicle, he focuses on seven key areas at speeds up to 125 mph: controllability, driving feel, sound, brake performance, power, noise and vibration, and the function of parts.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/pub-share/magazine/html/Vehicle-Insider/images/1103_vi_lfaworks_s22.jpg
From there, the vehicle leaves its birthplace and heads for distant shores—the driveway of one of the world's 500 lucky LFA owners. However, those LFAs, and the LFA Works, also mean good things for the rest of the world's Lexus owners: what's being learned at the LFA Works is heading straight into the great Lexus bank of knowledge—which means even lighter, stronger, and more efficient cars for tomorrow.

Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition Laps Nordschleife in 7:14 (http://lexusenthusiast.com/2011/09/02/lexus-lfa-nurburgring-edition-laps-nordschleife-in-714/)
Some significant news broke today on Twitter — according to EVO writer Chris Harris & Lexus Europe, Lexus driver Akira Iida posted a 7:14 lap time of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a LFA Nürburgring Edition — good enough for either the fourth or fifth all-time fastest lap on the famed German track in a production vehicle (the exact time has yet to be announced). Even more impressive, regardless of milliseconds, this is the fastest lap ever by a mainstream manufacturer.

LFA Tokyo Edition (http://lexusenthusiast.com/2011/09/19/lexus-lfa-tokyo-special-edition/)
http://cdn.lexusenthusiast.com/images/weblog/11-09-19-lexus-lfa-tokyo-edition.jpg
CAR Magazine is reporting that a new Lexus LFA Toyko Edition will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this winter:
The Lexus LFA Tokyo edition will bring an M3-esque exposed carbon roof and (still hydraulically adjustable) carbon rear spoiler. Presumably this just means the weave is exposed, as the LFA is already made from carbonfibre.
CAR understands the LFA Tokyo will cost about €40k more than a ‘regular’ Lexus LFA.
The exposed carbon fiber look is likely inspired by one of the LFAs that launched the model at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, which makes for a very nice tribute. No word if any other upgrades are included.
One other LFA rumor is also mentioned:
A spider roadster was planned and its carbonfibre construction meant the open-top LFA was nearly as rigid as the coupe. But our sources in Japan have confirmed the roadster LFA has been canned owing to the economic uncertainty in markets around the world.
No surprise here, though I’m not too sure about the reason given — as far as I understand it, part of the LFA sales pitch was that no other LFA variants would be made (meaning no roadsters or convertibles).
So they don't paint the roof and charge another 40k Euros for doing that. :fawk:

Lexus Plans LFA Tokyo Edition But No LFA Roadster (http://www.gtspirit.com/2011/09/23/rumours-lexus-plans-lfa-tokyo-edition-but-no-lfa-roadster/)
Rumours suggest that the planned LFA Roadster will not see the light of day. For those who have been keeping up with Lexus’ LFA project, this will not come as a surprise. However, with this unfortunate news comes better news in the form of an LFA Tokyo Edition. A limited edition LFA model due for the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show later this year.
So why the Tokyo special edition and not a new Roadster model? We think much of it comes down to economic circumstances. It’s widely known that Lexus have produced the LFA as a loss-making product. Between December, when the car entered production and March of last year, 90 cars left the factory. Lexus produces around 15 cars per month at the moment, 5 short of the 20 car target it set itself last year. The production run is 500 cars which means that Lexus will be producing the car until late 2013.

Lexus Brings Facebook Competition Winners to Silverstone to Drive the LFA (http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2011/11/lexus-brings-facebook-competition.html)
Lexus did something that is extremely rare when it comes to limited-run specialty models like the LFA supercar.
And what may that be, we hear you ask? The Japanese company's British division organized a competition on its official Facebook page giving three people the opportunity to drive around the famous Silverstone track in the LFA.

Inside The Lexus LFA: Soon You Will Hear How It Changes The Lexus Brand, Chief Engineer Says (http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/12/inside-the-lexus-lfa-soon-you-will-hear-how-it-changes-the-lexus-brand-chief-engineer-says/)
Sometimes, there are perks in this business. Yesterday, I had the biggest perk so far: I saw a $375,000 (base) supercar in the nude. And I could ask the man who built the LFA what he was thinking. He thinks the LFA could change Lexus as we know it.
Haruhiko Tanahashi is the Chief Engineer of the Lexus LFA, the storied supercar, population 500. A Chief Engineer at Toyota and hence at Lexus is much more than an engineer. He is the father of the car, he is responsible for the car from idea to realization and optimization.
A lot has already been written about the LFA. I wanted to know only one thing: Why?
Why build a car that is limited to 500 units, which are beyond the reach of a mere mortal? Will the LFA remain an exotic island, or will its technology filter down into the whole Lexus line?
Yes it will, and it already does, says Tanahashi:
“Sure, there will be direct technology transfers to all Lexus lines. For instance carbon, engine efficiency and more. But the most important cross pollination is not the car itself, it is the thought process behind the car. That thought process could change the philosophy of Lexus 180 degrees.”
Tanahashi gives just one example that is indicative of what may happen to the Lexus brand, should the ideas behind the LFA prove communicable:
“In the past, the engine sound has always been something we were trying to suppress. We were trying to remove all sounds from the car. I was told and I told my people: Sounds are bad, sounds are bad, sounds are bad. Especially the engine sound. We used to want that as quiet as possible.
What is different with the LFA is that you hear the music of the engine, and it has a beautiful sound. People want to hear that sound.
That is one example that you will be seeing – well, hearing – in other Lexus cars in the future.”
When Tanahashi and his team developed the LFA, they worked with Yamaha. Not only with Yamaha, the engine builders. They worked with the musical instrument builders at Yamaha. They turned the LFA into a musical instrument. Not a synthesizer that plays sampled engine sound. They turned the LFA into a veritable wind instrument.
Tanahashi’s Deputy Chief Engineer Chiharu Tamura demonstrates this for me on the most unusual LFA I had ever seen (not that I have seen many): A naked, disrobed LFA. They removed the outer skin of the car so that all that is inside can be seen and touched.
In the LFA, the air rushes into an opening on the engine side of the firewall. The air enters an echo chamber in the dash, and sound is emitted though small openings in the dashboard.
In addition, there is a membrane behind the engine computer that creates sound as the air rushes across the rear of the car.
Of course there was another question that needed to be asked, and that is the question of the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time. Currently, the LFA lap time stands at 7 minutes, 14:64 seconds, which is “very fast” as Tanahashi states, and do I honestly want more?
Then the Chief Engineer kicks in, and Tanahashi feeds me the company line that nobody wants to set a record on the Nordschleife. Driving there is done solely in the name of science and testing, to optimize the ride, to make it handle well, and the 7 minutes, 14:64 seconds are simply a result of this test.
There must be a secret cue card which is used by all manufacturers, because they all say the same: “Record? Us? On the Nürburgring? What record?”
I roll my eyes so fast that I become dizzy.
Then slowly, a smile unfolds in Tanahashi’s face, he leans forward, lowers his voice, and says:
“My test driver Akira Iida says that from his point of view, we can reach 7:12. He thinks it’s possible. Of course, that is strictly his own private opinion.”
Of course it is.

Sporting a more track-oriented aerodynamic kit and a functional rear spoiler, that package now looks tame compared to the modified LFA on display at the TWS booth at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
Along with that huge spoiler out back the LFA gets a custom set of TWS wheels, as well as an ultra-aggressive rear diffuser setup to further improve aerodynamic flow over and around the supercar.

Verdict
In many ways, the LFA is Japan’s Bugatti Veyron and it’s a very, very impressive machine indeed, one that I’d have happily lapped until I crashed or ran out of petrol. Here’s to Naruse-san, then – and to the thought that brilliance like this with filter through to cheaper Toyota sports cars in the future.

Toyota needs cars like this to be progressive. So what if its priced in a range where it will compete with more prestiges name brands that will just mean they will become a rarer exotic. And the technology being tested in it will eventually find its way to future sports cars from Toyota . . . so what's wrong with that?

I courteously disagree, that is a horrible color and it makes the LFA look bad. In my opinion it's a color best reserved for micro cars like the Kia Picanto. :puke:

Lexus LFA Shines in Sunset Orange (http://www.autoevolution.com/news/lexus-lfa-shines-in-sunset-orange-43478.html)
Ladies and gentlemen, meet number 272, a unit of the Japanese supercar that has been dressed in Sunset Orange (9K6 code, if you were wondering). This is a bold color, but doesn’t take things too far, so it gets an A+ from us.
Of course, when you configure such a car, there are many other chromatic choices you have to make and to illustrate this, we’re listing the ones of this LFA below:
Sunset Orange
Dark Premium Metallic Wheels
Silver Calipers
Cream Leather Steering Wheel, Cream Leather Door Grips
Cream Leather Seat Front, Black Leather Seat Back
Cream Stitching
Black Headliner
Black Carpet
Black Floormats
Silver Instrument Panel, Door Panel and Center Console
