I'm looking at getting the Alpine MDR M300 (maybe the M500) Amp & Alpine 1241D (12") Type R subwhoofer. I will be pushing 600 Watts from the amp to just one 12" Alpine Type R subwhoofer. Does anyone have this setup or Alpines? Would you recommend them for clear powerful bass? I'm not looking for bass that sounds like crap or anything like that, I go for clarity, with a nice bass sound that thumps with the music, and that but doesn't shake the bumper off the damn car. Any suggestions? Do you think the amp is good for this speaker? Anyone setup with Aplines or other subwhoofers that give clear bass? I'm going to keep my my other speakers stock, they hit the highs good enough to leave them in, I think I just need the bass to turn it up a notch.

I think this is further proof that the whole "Type R" thing has gone too far.

Other than that, What's the price range. There are several subs and setups you could go with. Enclosure plays a key role in how well the sub will sound. bad box, bad bass. Do they come pre-fabed? My personal Favorites are JL Audio's, I have had nothing but good exp w/ their equipment.

I found the Alpine MDR M300 for $219 and the Alpine 1241D Type R 12" subwhoofer for $145 and willo have a place locally here in San Diego build a custom box probably behind the rear seats, they said they would build it where the spare tire is, but I think I will just go with a box. I believe the speaker is designed for an enclosure type box. They speakers recommend i think .075 - 1 cu. ft. enclosure. Anyhow; have you compared the JK Audio subwhoofers to the Alpines? I know that JL Audio's kick a$$ but I was told that the Alpine Type R's are one of the best bass speakers. I researched the MRD M300 and M500 amp's and they sound really nice. I played around with one at a local car sudio place and those two amps use DSP chips that digitize the anolog signal, reprocesses it then spits it back to anolog and the result is suppose to be awesome. It has a bunch of settings to auto correct bass lag, change bass high's and lows, digital heat temperature and a bunch of other digital settings. The place I fould them at online is the best around. The 12" speaker at a local place called SoundDiego wanted $300 for the same subwhoofer and $350 for the amp, and $200-$300 to build a custom box plus $120 for the installaltion. How is the bass clear on JL's... clear or license plate rumble deep ?

The new MDR-300 amp is a really great amp...i'm thinking of upgrading my system to run a couple of these babies. The Type R will give you the clean bass that you're looking for - I love the Type R's that I've got....great choices man.

I think I will get the MDR-M300 and the 1241D subwhoofer, for the price and expectations it should bump the subwhoofer. Thanks for the info 'DaJoker' after the sound system comes the Quantum Tinting ($260).

I have two m500's that are going to push two 12" type-R's. I also have odered the 540 4 channel to push four 6 1/2 componet type-R midways. I have also ordered the new 7998 head unit and the pod that lets you control the digital amps without even touching the amps themselves. I have everything payed for but I am waiting for the 540 which is supposed to be here June 1 or 2 and the 7998 which is supposed to get here mid June. I drop off the 2002 GTS June 5th and they start putting it in. They told me it would take a couple of weeks to put it all in and make it look pretty. This guy putting in my system even tried talking me into putting another 2 m500's in. Thats 1000 w to each sub. But it was another $1,000. And I really don't think it needs another 1000 watts. It will sound killer with just the 2 m500's. This guy even says that he might be able to get me car in a photo shoot with the guys from alpine. I'll tell you how it sounds after I get it all in. Good luck

Cool, do tell me how it turns out. Yesterday sucked, I got slammed into from behind by a stupid 2000 Saturn Coupe... I'm so freaking pissed.

Type Rs are a good choice...my friend has 2 12"s and I was surprised how much those subs rumbled compared to the JL W3s. You should definitely get 2 12's though...one sounds weak but maybe its just me.
