View Full Version : Trailer Hitch Troubles

Hey everyone, I just bought a used 2001 Celica gts. I pick it up on Friday.

I am trying to get a Reese Shadow Mount trailer hitch for it. Reese has one
for the 2000 Celica, but they do not list one for the 2001. When I e-mailed
them, they told me the 2000 Celica trailer hitch would not fit a 2001
Celica. They have not been very helpful, but I like their shadow mount more
than any other hitch because it uses the low profile RECTANGULAR bar.

Does anyone know if there is any difference with the rear bumper or the
exhaust between the 2000 Celica and the 2001 Celica. I am tempted to buy it
anyway and cut, weld, grind, and paint it if needed, unless there are other
mfgs out there who offer the RECTANGULAR draw bar. Thanks

Scott

wow! hitch on a celica... you might be the first one to ever ask that question on here!

I'm about 99% positive the bumpers are the same.... Does it just attach where the tow hooks are?

can you buy it, try it, and return it if it doesn't work?

the only thing i can think of that would be different if one of the cars had the action package.

Um, I asked the hitch question 2 years ago. Most of you didn't have drivers licenses back then.

I have a DrawTight on my Celica, so does NoCones and B1mmer, and many others...

Anyhow, as far as I know there are no differences between the 2000 and 2001. I say go for it.

The DrawTight really isn't very obtrusive, the only part you see is the little square, and it does bolt right up. I do understand the appeal of the flat bar though.

The hitch I have on my 00 GT was originally on an 02 GT...I can't imagine any reason that the Reese wouldn't work on all 00+ Celicas.

Make sure that the hitch is for a 7th gen. Although the site may say 2000 Celica they may have really ment the 93-99 6th gen celica. I have seen this happen a few times with some parts (happened alot when the car had just come out back in late 99). Try and call them first.

I think it would look pretty trick pulling a nice little polished aluminium trailer with a custom painted jet ski , matching the car.

hitch on a celica to tow a set of race wheels and tires to an autocross which happens to be the only sport that the celica does well in =

a celica with a hitch = disgrace

Let me guess, you think a Celica ought to be parkes, jacked up on one side, one wheel off and a mirror underneath to show off that AEM big brake kit - after all, you need those big brakes to look fast.

Here are a few shots showing my Celica (yes it has a hitch), not only looking fast, but actually going fast (my wife is driving it in these pictures). caz - please don't make my wife hitch up the trailer, tow it to texas and put an ass whoppin' on you like your momma never did (but probably should have).
