any one here has mahel 12:3.1 piston and got a map i can use???
i will be getting the motor back next week, and need a base map to run the car to the shop to get dyno tune. i am not sure on what to look for???
should i retard timing?? add more fuel???
jesse your help would be greatly appreciated.

more interestingly XLOS, how are you gonna break in the engine. Was browsing a K20 forum and came a guide, you want it?

Sure, breaking in the motor is a very good question. I know lost of people baby the motor. So i want to do that 4 the first 1k, but still want to know how to tune out the motor with the power fc, i heard retarting the timing would help, but im not sure since stage 3 cams are also in. Im going to need a good map, so i wont blow my sh1t!

Jesse's latest basemap should work pretty well. Maybe richen it up a bit and lower ignition timing by 1-2 degrees and that should get you fine to the dyno without any problems.

Hope this helps Xlos. http://www.importbuilders.com/breakinarticle.htm
Good luck and be careful =)

It doesn't work well with an Injen CAI without modifications to the load scaling and I have no idea what it would do with high comp pistons. You also have non-stock injectors which are another complete wildcard. I can't vouch for the safety of running the map on your car.

Excellent info!!

I probably should know better by now, but for the sake of asking...
I plan to break the motor in on the stock ecu. I have a UEGO to monitor a/f.
Can i assume the stock ecu will pull timing if needed, albeit up to a small amount?
Not many miles will go on the motor with stock ecu, but for sake of making sure stuff like Lift works and the car is good to bring home, would it be ok?
I have power fc and datalogit, but they are new and notbeen used yet. I'm guessing the pfc base map wont be as good as the stock ecu for the short period i will be running the car 'untuned'...
Opinions please... :)

I am pretty sure you'll be fine with the stock ecu. Monitor the wideband though!!
On break-in, I have ran mine with stock ecu no problem. Injen does run leaner than it should but that's known. i have just been extra careful because of that and the build engine. I have a built head but stock piston. Many has the mahle 12.3 pistons on top of it. He ran with with stock ecu too. The only thing I heard from him is that it caused cells (missfire) but other than that, it ran fine ..
I then switch to PFC with conservative A/F and timing. Then semi-tune it gradually. Nothing to complicated! But, i had a tuned map with stock motor to start with. It was a pretty good start. Not optimum, but reliable given I added extra fuel and remove a few degrees of timing. The apexi map will give you a hard time. try to find something better like MWR ... Monitor knock a lot with the PFC! If you havent yet, I'd recommend reading and learning on the PFC before you try (unless you rely on a reliable tuner).
I just read the article on importbuilders. Everything is true. But I feel that what was said is more a frustration against people that build, do stupid things and don't listen to the people they should listen to. Tips on how to drive an engine under break-in given some basic tuning is done or more technical ecu tuning tips for an engine under break-in would have been more valuable.
